Ok so I have an old IBM ThinkPad 600E with a P2 400MHz, 128MB RAM, and Win 2k Pro SP3. It is basically a clean install with a few added programs. It has never gone on the net, has no AV or firewall, and is cleaned and maintained regularly but it still takes about 3 full minutes to boot up. What can I do to make it faster that will cost me nothing and does not involve changing the OS? All I use this computer for is keeping track of DnD characters and looking at DnD manuals which is the main area I would like a speed up in. PDFs are so slow and often freeze on this computer. On boot up only 17 programs are running. When idle about 62500 K of memory is available and the CPU utlization is at about 1%. Also how much V RAM is a good idea to have? I don't use much of the HDD so space isn't a problem. One more thing. Is there a way to get the OS to quit complaining about "unsafe" removal of USB devices?
