Our computer tech turned off system restore (windows xp) on one of our office computers yesterday and presto, it started to run faster. I'm wondering if this is a smart thing to do on other computers to get them running faster? We do not have a central server but each computer does have carbonite installed. Thanks.

A bad idea on so many levels...no.

    Bad idea. Baaaaaaad.

ESPECIALLY on office computers. Shame on your tech person.

If nothing else for the reasoning of backed up registry hives, its worth to keep running.

If your computers slowed down by system restore....consider what might be causing system restore to slow down, not what is causing system restore to slow the computer down.

System restore should not slow down your computer.

It is possible that the HDD was nearly full and removing system restore released the space, and sped windows up.

In a nutshell NO it is not good to have it off IF you plan on using it in the event of a problem.

That carbonite you have is an online storage (i beleive) so it wont do you much good if your PC wont boot, and i dint beleive it is intended to replace SR.

I should point out i don't have SR turned on, on any of my rigs. I tend to reinstall if things go pear shaped.
