For the last two days I have had an annoying window coming up from the taskbar near the clock.
The icon in the task bar was like the windows update icon which flashed with a red cross and a message saying virus allert when the cursor was on it.

The window had a message that windows had detected a spyware infection and I needed to specialized software to remove it.
If clicked on it opened firefox and took me to spyaxe's download page.

I followed all the instuctions on spyware and virus removal here but no luck.
Eventually I downloaded spyaxe and was determined not to be blackmailed into buying it, I ran it then removed the entries it found manually from the registry etc.

My problem has gone but I am being told by some that I need to remove svhost , some websites apparently say so.
    Is this required or not?
I thought svhost was a required process.

Sorry that was meant to be svhost.dll that I was told to remove.

Seems I don't have svhost after all, but svchost which I beleive is required as opposed to svhost which carries the virus and or spyware

The file C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe is a system file, anything other than this is bad and should be removed.
