The other day I ran a Spybot scan, and it flagged a program called Alexa. It then informed me that Alexa would not be removed but modified and left behind and that other programs would give a false flag on it. So, today I was running Ad Aware and it did flag the Alexa program. The first two times I just left it, but today I was in an onery mood, and decided that it was my computer and I didn't need Alex taking up spce on my harddrive, and deleted what was left by spybot. Why did Spybot not delete the program to begin with?

Its not really a problem, its a file not a program. If you like you can manually remove the file.

Feeds off of index.dat or something I take it, but why did Spybot leave it. It doesn't disable something like Wild Tangent, and that is a program, so, what gives with Alexa? How come it gets special treatment. I mean, Ad Aware cleaned it out, so it isn't a problem, but, I rely on spybot to lookout for us out there, and yet he didn't just do the obvious, and gave no explaination for his lack of termination.

I know, you didn't write the program, but you guys surely talk to these guys that do, and could ask the big why, can't you? I really want to know. When I put my trust in someone like that I like to feel I know what they are thinking, when I can't figure it out, I begin to doubt their motives. So, Majah, Sir, What's the scoop. Is he scratching someones back for cause, or is the price right? :D

Like I said before, its not really a problem but some people like to remove it. Some antispyware programs detect and remove it, some dont even detect it. Most antispyware programs detect it, but its up to you whether you remove it or not.

You said it was referring to the index.dat file. If this is the case you need to run CCleaner to clean out the index.dat files.

Download CCleaner and run the first 2 scans only.

I just did a factory restore to because of other problems, and it was back on my system and flagged by both Spybot and AdAwareSE. It's a Microsoft thing, isn't it? He just doesn't want to step on the toes of the King of software, does he? Microsoft uses it to gather information to trouble shoot their systems, don't they? :)

Its not related to Microsoft at all. Alexa is a amamzon.com company, its trusted for some users. They provide toolbars and such. Pesonally, I would remove it because I dont like anything I didnt put there, thats just me though!

The site I provided you with should answer your questions.
