Help! I ran spybot search and destroy. It found four viruses in the registry along with a couple in other places. I clicked fix selected problems, then I restarted the computer. Now every time I type a letter on the keyboard, the computer freezes and I have to press the power button to turn it off. I can't click on the start button either. The mouse works though. Please help!

how do you undo the spybot deletions?

Spybot should create a registry backup. Is there a .reg file on your system that was created when you deleted registry keys? If so, double-click it, and it will restore all the keys that were deleted. You'll have them back, but the experts in the malware removal thread will be able to help you remove them safely and effectively.

Where would the .reg file be? It's kind of hard to search for it since I can't type anything.

Nevermind! I found something better in the help files:

The recovery section is available by selecting Recovery from the Spybot-S&D section in the toolbar to the left.

If you have fixed some spyware problems in the past, this list will show it. Here you can select one or more problems (see also the context menu for extended selection options) and either recover or finally purge them from your system.

In addition to the Recovery feature, Windows XP and ME users have the possibility to enable the creation of System Restore Points for each fix. This option can be set in the Main Settings part of the Settings section.
When going back to a System Restore Point, the Resident TeaTimer needs to be shut down: With TeaTimer running, it will take note of the changes and ask to either Allow or Deny them. However, in the process of restoring Windows will restart too fast to allow the changes.

Would system restore fix the problem?

Its worth a try if you have any created during or before the fix.

I turned system restore on about two months ago. I went into Start-Programs-Accessories-System Restore. I went back about two weeks (I ran spybot yesterday) But that didn't fix the problem.

Would reinstalling windows xp delete all the programs I have installed?

Repair (I'm going to have to write this down and save it somewhere ...) boot into bios and change order to cd-rom first boot ...then hard drive ..
boot with cd in drive ....when prompted hit enter to boot from cd ...enter to install ...f8 to agreement ...then it will look for previously installed os ..when it finds xp will prompt to either repair (R) or new ...hit "R" ....will look like new install but will save all files and programs and viruses !!!! But then you can go to the malware section!!

You don't necessarily need to set the Bios to boot from CD Rom to do a repair.

A much easier way is to just autoplay the XP CD, then select Install Windows and follow the prompts.
