spybot help

What version do you have? Did you try running it after booting in safe mode?

If you still have problems, follow the steps below.


- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

- Download HijackThis 1.99.1

- Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

- Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

- Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

- Run HijackThis and save your log file.

- Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Please provide specifics! What Trojan name was mentioned? Also what was the filename that was found and where is it located?

What do you mean by "went crazy"?

Why do you have Spybot running when using HijackThis. In fact you seem to be running Spybot twice! It should not be running at this time.

Do you use this People PC Toolbar?

You have no real apparent malware problems but do possibly have to many spyware blocking tools running.

For which account was the HijackThis log you posted?

A reason for your system being so slow could be related to all the spyware tools that are running.

Have you run a full system scan in normal and in safe boot modes with both SpySweeper and MS Antispyware? What versions of these two programs do you have and what are the reference file versions for them too?

Did you purchase:
SpySweeper
SpyCatcher
SpySubtract

If not, I would uninstall SpyCatcher and SpySubtract to start.

 

Modem connect speeds will typically have nothing to do with the software running on your PC inless you misconfigure modem initialization parameters, but that would have nothing to do with your spyware tools. Problems with connect speeds are typically related to noisy phone lines which can also be impacted by weather conditions (especially in areas where phone cables are old and prone to crosstalk or water problems).

SpySweeper is a good program but it can be CPU intensive on some systems.
MS Antispyware is good and its free (at least right now). I would not have both it and SpySweeper loading at the same time, except in cases where you are trying to fix spyware problems and need some additional scanning to find everything.

AOL Spyware I would never use and would make sure that it does not even load.

 

Okay! But what kind of modem is in your laptop and what kind is in your desktop?
Also what software is doing the modem initialization on each? Are the init strings correct for each?
Some modems do provide better connect rates than others but you also have to look at the effective throughput rate over time. Modems will retrain if the lines are noisy and this will actually lower your real throughput.

Where does Spybot stop at? When scanners are running most systems will be at 100% usage. Disconnect from the internet (unplug cable) and shutdown ALL other applications including your antivirus application and run a scan. Does that help?

You should also update your oher scanners. You said you had

They are both out of date. Spysweeper is up to version 4.0.3.363 or higher.
And MS Antispyware is on 1.0.509 definitions 5725 . You should uninstall your old version and install and undate the new one. Get it here: Microsoft® Windows AntiSpyware
