Spybot is installed and does have the latest updates. However, it will not run. When I click on the shortcut or right click the exe file nothing happens. I can right click on a file and Spybot will scan that one file-just can't get the program to run a full scan. Any suggestions? :cry FYI-I know I have the XP Security Center virus on my computer and was hoping Spybot would get rid of it.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Spybot will not remove this malware.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run (including Spybot), write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

:) Thanks-I had found the thread on removing Malware and followed it. Still could not get Spybot to run...however since I had not yet shut down the restore, after restoring to a week ago not only was the "XP Security Center" pop up gone, but Spybot was working. Between your advice and Spybot I am now back to normal.

FYI I believe the problem was with a Firefox update. It was after the update that things got haywire-Spyhunter was installed on my machine and after it's "free scan" it took me to a page that wanted payment to fix the problem. I uninstalled the Spyhunter and assume that when I did the restore it did away with the update to Firefox.

Spybot was unable to fix two files "Myweb" and "funweb" but I was able to locate them and get rid of them.
    Thanks for the help
