Spybot SD not loading after installed

I have spent the better part of 5 hours trying to heal my computer. And I was proud of myself. I was following chaslang's directions for windows xp cleaning procedures to the letter. I printed everything out, and did everything exactly as stated, all the preparations before running any utulities etc. I ran super anti-spyware with no problem, and it picked up 52? trojans:cry I installed spybot from his link, followed the directions, and now when i click on it, my screen size gets small and fuzzy and it says "locating temporary file folders" and just hangs there doing nothing.
Any help at all here is very very appreciated
I know there is a way to attach system info, I just tried to do it and I cant. If you give me direction I can provide whatever you need.

Thanks Chas, I just wish I had done what you recommended. Before I had a response, I figured I would enter safe mode and run it from there. Unfortunately, safe mode did not work, I never even had a chance to run the program. My computer completely crashed. I think that somehow my safe mode was completely corrupted. Living in the middle east, with no easy way to get a computer fixxed, I completely restored my computer back to the factory settings. Lost all kinds of stuff, but at least its working now. Now that my computer is clean as a whistle... any recommendations for software? I did download Super anti spyware and AVG 8. I guess I should visit the windows site for all the updates? anything else you care to suggest is appreciated.
