Just have to say that the my new computer could no longer make Spybot ask me for a key in order to correct errors it identified. I did major hard drive cleaning and then downloaded Spybot again. This time it was fantastic and cleaned all the malware it found, so I agree it was freeware! Glad you all had found it did not ask for a key!

I was so impressed that I decided to keep Spybot on the new computer, and removed it from the old computer. Thanks for telling me you weren't asked for a key. I had nightmares with the new computer: it had Microsoft updates blocked and every crazy thing. It sure made Spybot act strangely.
Well, another program I'll use on the new one, that was GREAT, is Ewido. That really found tons of malware and it's compatible with AVG, Zone Alarm etc. Wish I could put it on both computers. Sticky was right about using Ewido.

Wish I could use Zone Alarm on the "new" laptop too. Is Microsoft's firewall enough?

In most cases, yes. Zone Alarm has more options and features, whereas Microsofts is set it and forget it, with less options.
