I am not sure if this question has been posted before---I typed in spybot in search and could not find the answer:
Question-- when running spybot, the number of files it is checking are now up to almost 22,000---I swear when I started they were around 17,000
I looked in regedit for these names that are appearing and could not find any of them---for example there are dialers, casinos, and even sex sites(heaven forbid)
Is there a way to remove these files or whatever they are??

    thanx

If your spybot is finding them it should be able to remove them. As far as finding more files, it may be you temporary internet files and a couple of others try running your disk cleanup utility.
    Path for WinXP - Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup
Let it clean out your temporary folders and then run spybot again.
You might all want to download Ad-Aware SE Personnal from Lavasoft.com and run it too.

Thanx for the input tigerray, but that didnt fix it

I dont mean that spybot is finding all these, but I am referring to the bottom left corner when running spybot--there is a small box that reads:

Running Bot Check(and lists the names of programs such as direct dialer etc)
and also lists the large number of files its checking(i presently have 21,895)

I cleaned the disks and it did not help!

I think spybots spyware data base is almost 22,000 it checks for any of them on your computer. Each update to spybot it adds more malware to check for.It doesnt matter how many files are on your comp.If it finds zero none of the files are on your comp.Thats my understanding of it,but i have been known to be wrong

What do you mean you "see alot of things on there"? On where? On your computer or in the scrolling list at the bottom of Spybots window as it scans? The scrolling list is what it is currently looking for. Not what it found. What it found is at the end in the report.

Sorry chaslang for not being specific--I meant i see a lot of things on the rolling list that i would hope nobody is accessing on my computer---lotsa gambling and sex sites

as you can see, i must get pretty bored to sit here and watch spybot.

every once in awhile spybot catches something but i sure am happy when i see the CONGRATULATIONS screen at the end of running spybot

Okay! So I guessed right. This I assume this means you have no problems?

No problems---I was just concerned when I saw the number on the scrolling list jump so high---I thought maybe all those were on my computer, not realising that the number had increased from me updating spybot

    Thanx all
