Hi everyone...hope someone can help me!

My PC has been infected by SPYSHERIFF, and I need help on how to remove it. I've read the proceedures on this forum, and it's pretty well set out....READ & RUN>Disable And Enable System Restore, but I CANNOT righ-click 'My Computer' as the desktop is frozen!!! (I'm using my old system to use this site!).
My 'new' system with the problem and running (WindowsXP) shows the desktop with the unwanted icons and the SpySheriff Control Panel showning 323 threats found. In the background of the desktop a 'Restore my Active Desktop button is visible but click anything and nothing happens?

    Queries:-
How can I download the software tools that will be needed?
Do I need to be online to delete the spyware.
Will all my files mp3s, documents be lost for good?

The SpySheriff 'program' seems to be running (Slowly!?) as a Security Warning has just popped up! Would clicking to buy the spyware removal program acually work?

    Please help!

    I've looked at that topic.
The problem I've got is that my PC has somehow locked and therefore I can't follow those instructions!
There is no taskbar/start button. There is no 'My Computer' icon to right-click.
The SpySheriff task manager appears, but then I can do nothing!!!
I've tried rebooting. Sometimes the 'spyware' icons appear!
I have a couple of programs that can be launched from the desktop but upon opening, then freeze. I cannot use Cont>Alt>Delete....a message
' Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator' appears.
I've tried starting in 'SafeMode' using F8 (as I can't use Start>Run> type msconfig) but as the PC has been shut down incorrectly you have to boot as normal.

I cannot seem to do anything on the pc that has the virus.

I can download the highjackthis program, and save to cd, but transfering it to the infected system doesn't seem possible. My cd/dvd drives are not working because of the problems.

Pressing F8 on start up brings me to the screen with the SafeMode option at the top of the page, but 'Start Windows Normally' option is highlighted but I cannot use the up/down arrow keys to highlight SafeMode. In fact, I have to use the 'OFF' button to switch off the computer, as it doesn't even respond to the highlighted option!

Someone said I might have to clear cmos? A switch next to battery? Last resort?!!!!

You should probably work this issue in the Hardware Forum. But yes you should check in your BIOS to make sure your CD/DVD and hard disk drives are properly configured and recognized.
