spyware Dr. with anti virus dud?

Hi
I have the latest version with all guards activated and it won't even block downloading an eicar text file..only detects it as a virus after i manually scan the file...It's the only anti virus I've ever had that will let youi down load a virus test file unless its a zip file..

anyone else experience this?

tomdy2k, welcome to Mg. While I would not ever do this- I gave it a shot! Simply because I don't bank or have any thing of consequence on this LT. Worst case I'd format and restore to factory!
Running avast 4.8 -Avast did not flag it! TBH not sure any thing Dloaded!
I think you meant test and not text. It's up to other MG members to try. Just don't link the site!

I know a lot of nti virus programs won't flag the zip eicar test file but this is the first one that missed the text one...I think it worked a week ago till it program updated to the latest version..not sure though

 

I run, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and it detected it, just fine. Also free.

 

Indeed. But, as of yet, no mention on the OS. So, yes, Vista and win7. 6.0 and 6.1.

 

Ok sorry, I was hitting the "Download Anti-Malware testfile" link on the top right of the site. Scrolled down and Avast flagged all four in an instant and prompted to abort the connection
