I noticed this when there was a new tool bar on my ie web browser called protection bar.

I ran the panda scan but my internet connection failed and could not retrieve the report. I will try it again if it is needed but here is what I have

Edit by chaslang: Inline HJT log removed

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments. Please note that no logs are to be posted inline like you did with HijackThis and also you must stop using MSconfig to control startups. Also HijackThis logs must not be obtained in safe mode. They must be from normal boot mode. This is covered in step 7 of the READ ME.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

I don't have time this morning to re-run all of the scans that I ran yesterday, but here is what has happened.

I missed the steps about running Getrunkey and Shownew so I ended up doing after everything thing else. I then ran Hijackthis and I will post logs from all 3 in the next 2 replies.

Yesterday when I ran everything Spybot found and cleaned files. The only scan I had problems with was Panda scan. At the end it asked for a profile and then it would not allow me to retrieve my report. This has happened 2 times to me and the report takes a long time to run.

As you see, I kinda did things out of order so if I need to start over please let me know.

    Thank you for your help.

Hijackthis log will be on the next post.

    One more thing.

After I ran everything yesterday (all except Getrunkey and Shownew) the pop ups did not come back but the "Protection Bar" was still on my IE toolbar.

Not having the popups has made this bearable but with the protection bar still there I know something is still wrong.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O3 - Toolbar: Protection Bar - {a2595f37-48d0-46a1-9b51-478591a97764} - C:\Program Files\Media-Codec\iesplugin.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O16 - DPF: {306E11D2-E5E4-095F-E897-59A97C732223} - http://85.255.113.214/1/gdnUS2218.exe
    O21 - SSODL: hubbsi - {7b1eeccd-0a6d-4ad5-8ac1-4af5722b3885} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vwlummc.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

NowCopy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop (overwrite the previous file). Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\Media-Codec <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vwlummc.dll

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Also attach a new log from GetRunKey.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

I've completed everything from your last post.

    C:WINDOWS/system32/vmlummc.dll was not there

Other than that everything went okay.

My computer boots way slower than normal. I think it is because it is running in normal boot and not selective. A lot of things seem to load at startup that used to not load.

Toshiba - There are several things that run that are toshiba from toshiba that I don't think I need.

Yahoo Messenger - The program doesn't start but I see it in the notification area.

Music Match - Same as Yahoo Messenger.

Intervideo - Does the same thing.

The computer seems to be responding a little slower than usual.

Also, I was playing World of Warcraft last night and I experience a lot of lag that I usually don't have and was even kicked from the server a few times. My internet connection was fine, I was just booted from the game. This could be a problem on their end but I just want to make sure none of these startup programs are interfering.

Can I start unchecking items in the 'msconfig - startup' screen?

You are already running MSconfig now and you must not use it. This was already stated in the READ ME in step 7. Also it is a very bad practice to use MSconfig like you are doing. Microsoft does not recommend using MSconfig for long term settings like this. MSconfig is only meant to be used for temporary debugging. If you do not use or need certain software, you should be uninstalling them. If you do use it but do not want it to load at startup, then you should configure the program to not load at startup within its on configuration settings. If it does not have these settings available then the registry key can be permanently deleted. There are other tools that can be used to control startups. See: Startup CPL

So you should stop using MSconfig and decide what software you don't need and uninstall it. That's your first step. Then you should decide which software you need but do not need to run all the time (i.e., at startup) and you should disable them from loading at startup. Use Startup CPL to control the rest (.i.e, to enable them to load when desired).

Your logs are basically clean except one registry key to remove.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop (overwrite the previous file). Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
