Does anyone else still use Spyware Guard? There hasn't been an update to the software in over 18 months. I was wondering if any of the moderators or Geeks had an opinion about this.

Also is it useful to use SG when using Mozilla it seems like all the activity in the reports is geared to IE.

    Thanks

What version of SG do you have installed? Be sure you have the lastest version which is SpywareGuard 2.2.

If you already have this update, then uninstall, reboot and download a fresh installer below then reinstall and update.

    SpywareGuard 2.2

Ok uninstalled and reinstalled. However the newest update is still 1/22/04. You guys know more than I but before I downloaded I checked my logs and the only things it ever "seemed" to catch was when I changed my homepage on IE.

It never seems to catch anything in Mozilla. So my question still remains is this a useful application?

    Thanks

Yes, it's a very good program, it works best with Spyware Blaster, running them both gives you better protection.

Personally, I don't have this installed as I use Spy Sweeper but I have heard many say how good it does.

If you like, just to confirm your clean, you can attach a HJT log from normal mode.

Scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

    O18 - Protocol: shell - {3050F406-98B5-11CF-BB82-00AA00BDCE0B} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshtml.dll

Again, make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

Run full scans with Ad-Aware SE & Spybot S&D and have both programs fix what they find.
Note: Remember to get all updates before doing the scans.

After you complete the above, reboot and let me know how things are running and if any problem occur.

Thanks for the help as always. Removed the items you noted on HJT. Ran CCleaner, ran Adaware (one Item found and removed), and Spybot (0 items) :) .

Here is the new HJT log.

Do you know if YPops needs to run on my startup menu? I just started using it a week ago.

I'm not sure as I am not familiar with this software.

Your HJT log is clean, are you having any further problems?
