I followed the steps here and at geekstogo (nearly identical), and I actually purchased Spydoctor because it said it would take care of it. It removed the trojan, I think, but the damn icon is still sitting in the system tray. Here is a copy of my HijackThis and Smit file.
I appreciate any help you can give me. Goes to show that you have to watch what sites your frequent.

    Thanks!:)

I just wanted to add that there is no listing of Spyware Quake in my add/remove programs, and that none of the information listed in the guide was found on my computer. It does not appear to be doing anything other than agitating the hell out of me, even though it is my fault it is there, but I want it gone. Let me know what I should do.

    Thanks!

Can someone please help me with this problem?

I have the crap removed, as far as I can tell, but the damn icon (Spyware Quake) will not go away. I am getting ready to completely remove everything on my system and start over again. Does anyone have a way that I can remove this icon?

One of the guys will be along as soon as they can.... at present I know they are busy in the malware forum as in RL, but bumping your thread will ok send it to the top of the first page, BUT the guys work from the last post upwards so a bumped thread will get seen last... while leaving it for a bit ( yes I know malware is a PITA to have affecting your PC enjoyment ) it will get seen sooner ;)

Get your money back from SpyDoctor which is junk anyway. Read the below:

I was working on some additions to the SpywareQuake Removal Procedure which should be posted in a little while. You will be the first to try it. Basically a couple new registry keys to delete and a new bad DLL to add to the list. I will post back here when I finish with the changes to the procedure. You should then re-download the fixquake.reg patch which will be new and work thru the whole procedure again. I'm pretty sure it will fix you up, but you can be the judge of that. ;)

So wait until my next post gives you the okay to GO!

Okay the procedure has been updated for the new form. Give it a run and attach your followup smitfiles.txt log.

Then let me know how things look.

Chaslang, I appreciate your efforts in answering my response and working towards a solution. But as is usually the case, I tend to give up after a few hours, no fault of MajorGeeks just bad timing, and I decided to reformat. I wanted to change around my partitions anyways so it worked out for the best.

Except for the Spyware Doctor thing, I mislabeled it in the earlier post. It is the one that gets rave reviews. Hopefully it is a strong product. (I do research a little bit before buying/leaping, just not a lot. :)

I called and emailed the spyware quake arsehole and reamed him a new one. I am considering teasing them with legal action.

Thank you for your help though.

@Halo: Patience is a person I used to know, definitely not a feeling I have known.:)

Too bad you could not wait a little longer. The fix that I just posted would have been much faster than doing a format and reinstall.

Yes Spyware Doctor is a good program; however, I would still call them and ask them why they advertise they can fix something that they do not fix.

I actually intend to do just that. It did actually remove the bulk of the infestation, just that little bit with the icon and I imagine a couple other aspects. Definitely a nice telephone call for first thing in the morning. :)

They will just say it is a new form that they did not know about yet.

It is actually pretty easy to remove. The SpywareQuake sticky procedures covers at least 6 different forms already and actually the fixes a few other forms of the Smitfraud family too.
