I have been trying to fix this problem for a while now but can't seem to get it on my own. Every few minutes i get a pop up window saying:

    windows security alert
Windows has detected an Internet attack attempt...
Somebody's trying to infect your PC with spyware or harmful viruses.
Run full system scan now to protect you PC from internet attacks, hijacking
attempts and spyware! Click here to download spyware remover for total protection.
closing this window brings me to here:
    http://securepccleaner.com/privacy/...b54585856155156475c48433b070356575a0c5d560306

As well i did have an icon in the bottom right (shield flashing between x and ?) which gave me a message every so often as well. However, after setting msconfig to normal boot for hijack this, it seems to have gone away.
the icon would bring me to this site:
    http://www.virusprotectpro.com/?aff=1012

I'm recieving a new "alert" : Spyware Alert:
    Security warning!
Trojan.w32.looksky detected on your machine. This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and active-x objects. The worm has its own SMTP engine which means it gather e-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself. In worst cases this worma can allow attackesrs to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data.
This process should be removed from your system.
    Type: Virus
System affected: Windows 2000, NT, ME, XP, Vista
    Security risk (0-5): 5
Recommendations: Click Yes to remove it from your PC immediately.

This last message also comes with a red triangle with ! in the icon tray

And finally my home page is stuck on:
    http://ucleaner.com/main.php?wmid=6010&mid=MjI6Ojg5

Everything is closed however my computer is still running something...
There are no strange programs installed that i can find in add/remove. There are 3 shortcuts that bring me to websites on my desktop though, "Privacy Protector" "Error Cleaner" and "Spyware&Malware Protection"
I also ran the smitrem program which didn't help much.
I have gone through all steps and will attach all files.

and the computer seems to be still loading something constantly, even though nothing seems to be running. I didn't mean to bump but wasn't sure how to edit my last post!

Remove all of your browser toolbars and extensions.

    Download and install Registrar Lite

Run Registrar Lite navigate to each of the following keys (one at a time) and take ownership of them (I explained how to do that further down).

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NETWORK_MONITOR]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NETWORK_MONITOR\0000]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NETWORK_MONITOR]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NETWORK_MONITOR\0000]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NETWORK_MONITOR]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NETWORK_MONITOR\0000]

To take ownership of the key do the following:

    * Copy & Paste the registry key from above into the Address bar of Registrar Lite and hit the enter key. This will bring you to the registry key.
    * Click-on Security in the top Menu
    * Select Take Ownership
    * Repeat these steps for all of the registry keys given above before continue to the next steps below.
    * Now leave RegistrarLite running and continue
    * Now run the fixME.reg REGISTRY PATCH below in this message.
    * Tell me the results. Any error messages?
    * Now in RegistrarLite click View and then Refresh
    * Now navigate one at a time to each of the above keys we took ownership of to make sure they were deleted.
    * If any of the keys still exist, move on down to PART 2 - Setting Permissions for Everyone below!.

    Here is the Registry Patch

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
PART 2 - Setting Permissions for Everyone

Run the below if some of the registry keys still exist after running the above steps.

Now I want you to use Registar Lite again to navigate to each of the below keys (one at a time) by pasting them into the Address Bar and hitting return. But this time click the Security menu item and select Edit Permissions so we can change permissions to everyone ( I describe this down below the list of registry keys).
After click Edit Permissions , here is what I expect you to see in the Group or user names area of the form:

    Everyone
    SYSTEM

Select Everyone by clicking on it. Now at the bottom in the Permissions box click the check box for Full Control. The click Apply and then OK to get back to the main Registrar Lite screen. Nowright click on the registry key and select Delete. The click View and Refresh. Check to see if the registry key just deleted truly deleted. If so, move on to the next to work thru the whole list. If it does not delete, I want you to boot into safe mode and repeat these exact same steps to see if we can do it from safe mode.

    Then reboot your PC!

Now run GetRunKey again and attach a new log!

Ok, i had a bit of trouble trying to get through this but i think i got it. Part 1 didn't work, and part 2 didn't work in normal mode (access denied) So i went into safe mode where access was still denied, but after i deleted the sub folder [ /0000] i was able to delete the main folder. Computer is still going nuts, so here is getrun and shownew.

Please run CCleaner and remove all the temp files.

What does the pop up want you to download? (Assuming you have not done so!!)

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\chad\Application Data\Viewpoint
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\?ystem32
    C:\WINDOWS\Q2hhZA
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cqsfk.dll

If you are unable to do so:
Download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

    Download this file - Combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Attach a new ShowNew log as well as the avenger log (if you go that route) as well as the ComboFix log.

    There was no

There were 3 desktop shortcuts that kept reapearing however they have been deleted by your program i believe and aren't back yet. I was getting three messages; two pop up window warnings and one icon.

So far none of these messages have appeared since running the program and deleting those folders. But the pc or Hdd is still constantly working with no programs opened. The files you requested are attached!

    Delete this:
    C:\Program Files\BearShare Applications

We are going to try to reset your explorer ....make sure you have all active anti-spyware and virus programs disabled/turned off.

Re-run HJT and have it fix this line:
Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Now:
Sophos Anti-Rootkit will scan your computer for files that have been hidden using rootkit technology.

Many of the newer malware infections use this technology to hide themselves and to make them more difficult to remove.

    Installation
Download Sophos Anti-Rootkit 1.1 and save to a location you will be able to find such as your desktop

Run sarsfx.exe by double clicking on it.

Click Accept to agree to the EULA

Click Install (if you wish to change the default installation location do so here but remember where you install to, the default is C:\SOPHTEMP)

Once it finishes copying files, exit the installer
    Running the scan
Navigate to the location that you installed the software to (Default: C:\SOPHTEMP)

Run sargui.exe by double clicking on it.

Ensure that all three of the options are checked

    Click Start Scan

Once the scan is complete, close Sophos Anti-Rootkit by closing the scan window and clicking Exit in the main window

DO NOT CLICK 'CLEAN UP CHECKED ITEMS' OR ATTEMPT TO HAVE SOPHOS ANTI-ROOTKIT FIX ANYTHING UNLESS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED TO IN THE THREAD YOU ARE WORKING ON
Finding the logsClick on Start --> Run

Type in %TEMP%\sarscan.log and press enter

The log file will open in the default editor (probably Notepad)

Click File --> Save As and save the file to your desktop or other location for easy retrieval.

    Attach logs for:
    HJT
    Sarscan (Sophos)

I fixed the background problem i was having by going into control panel-display-desktop-customize desktop-web, then deleting the entry that was in there. I now also think i know what is causing my computer to constantly run. In my
    C:\DOCUME~1\chad\LOCALS~1\Temp
folder, files that begin with BIT***.tmp are being created constantly, i felt it had something to do with wmiprvse.exe and i ran a code in command prompt ; net stop bits. My computer is no longer going psychotic however it is still being used slightly with no programs running, i'm not sure if that's not normal or just me being paranoid. I feel this is a temporary fix and would appreciate any more help you can give!

    Please uninstall BitComet 0.81
Then run CCleaner and remove all the temp files!

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    How are things running now?

Did you set it to manual?

Otherwise your clean ...You may uninstall any programs we had you download (including CounterSpy, etc).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Go to start / run / and type "services.msc" without quotes ...it will open a window...scroll down the right side until you find "BITS" (Background Intell....etc.) ...right click it and choose properties ...set the startup type to manual. If it is disabled (stopped) windows update service will be grayed out.:)
