    Hey All-

I've gone through everything in the pre-post message word for word. I ran everything, but it seems to miss a few instances of spyware. I have my hijack this log and the panda active scan attached. If you want to I have the other online scan report as well. The spyware seems to block me from the internet after about an hour of being on. If anyone could help me with this I would really appriciate this.
    Here are my computer specs:
    XP Home SP2
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    512MB RAM
    60 GB HD

    Thanks

    Hi

Your hijackthis log is run from this location C:\DOCUME~1\LAUREN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 3 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe which is not the location we mention in the guide and also without the name change from hijackthis.exe to analyse.exe as newer malware has become smart and knows when the hijackthis.exe is run and hides itself from the scan, so is missed, also running from a temporary folder and zip file will result in any backups of things removed with hijackthis to be deleted in any steps to clear your temp folders, this is helpfull if somethings removed in error.

Also the logs from bitdefender online scan and GetRunKeys and ShowNew are needed.

    The guide again.............

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    All right-

After doing everything right the second time, here it goes. I ran everything from the "read before" thread. First, as suggested, I ran CCleaner and that was able to complete and got rid of a lot of crud. I don't remember the exact results, but I do remember that they seemed to be OK. Next I ran spybot and that seemed to get some major files because they had the name of the original virus in in the post-scan report. The virus was IRC/BackDoor SdBot2. Before I ran Spybot i was not able to access the internet with mozilla, but after I scaned it could finally go on. Finally I ran CounerSpy because I couldn't get Windows Defender to run. I was not able to find an option to save the scan from this, but after all the scans before there were only a few cookies left. Next I ran AVG just to check if the virus had been taked care of and it doesn't show up anymore. To be on the safe side I ran the two online scans. First I ran Bitdefender and that showed up about five or six spyware instances that couldn't be resolved. After that I ran Panda Active Scan it also showed that there were seven instances of sypware as well.

I have all the attachments that you guys wanted. The only on I couldn't get was the counterspy one, so I hope that it's not too crucial.I hoped that this cleared any questions up. Sorry about before, but I was getting very frusterated.

Per step 0 of the READ ME, you should uninstall Viewpoint Media Player. And while in Add/Remove programs also uninstall the below old versions of software.

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    Mozilla Firefox (1.5)

Then install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Then install the current version of FireFox from: Mozilla Firefox

Now to your malware! Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to Network DDE DSMA ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    NetDDEdsma

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit HJT and reboot when it tells you it needs to.
After reboot, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the READ ME).

Now run Windows Explorer and delete the below (if found):
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe <--- only delete svchost.exe if found in this folder. DO NOT deleted it from c:\windows\system32.

Now attach a new HJT log and tell me how things are working.

    Hey,

Thanks for the post. I updated Mozilla and Java Sun and that worked out alright. Next, I went to stop Network DDE DSMA, but they were already stopped. I ran windows explorer and none of the two files were found. I atached my HJT log. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but there might be more than meets the eye.

    Thanks for all the posts

You must complete ALL of the directions whether the service is stopped or not. You still need to Disable the service and then delete the service as instructed. Please complete the steps and attach a new log. When you finish doing the steps properly the below O23 Service line should no longer appear in your HJT log.

O23 - Service: Network DDE DSMA (NetDDEdsma) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)
