Spyware test?

I noticed that you can't help anybody in the spyware forum
without passing some sort of test or other. I looked around and
I can't find a link for the test. I pm'd the mods but I'm still waiting on
an answer. So does anybody know how to go about this?

We need people who are dedicated to being here all the time. You have only 84 posts in a year which means you are not here on Majorgeeks that often and many of your posts were to get fixes for problems that you were having. We do not need people coming in here to post intermittantly.

We also need people who have fairly extensive PC knowledge for each of the Windows OS's and also who have detailed knowledge about many other aspects of using a PC.

Based on what I have seen in threads like: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=49739
I'm not sure you have this knowledge or background.

Something from 9 months ago? You can learn basic programming in 9 months.
But no problem. It's certainly easier for me to ignore the posts than
to help, so you're not being unfair.

Yes! A lot of "basic" stuff can be learned in 9 months. Most of the new malware is far from basic.

But the questions remains on how much time are you willing to spend here helping and fixing. And how much additional time do you have to spending leaning all the stuff you do not know right now.

Are you going to be here almost every day and can you spend a few hours every day doing this?

If you really want I will send you the first part of the test and we will see how long it takes to get an answer back and how well you do. There are mutliple parts.

But as stated above the first requirement is that you must be dedicated to being here frequently. You do not even respond in threads where you have asked for help, like: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=70767

You really seem to enjoy the attack. Odd. As I stated in that post, this is for
a friends computer. I don't get over there all the time, because he is
a contractor with a family and doesn't have spare time. I have not been there
yet since that post. I stated perfectly clear that I would bump the post
when I got over there. I did however do quite a bit of homework on that problem the following day and found microsofts list of files to delete
(not, from your link btw...) in case of add/remove not working, which
    I then printed out.
I also bundled up a cd with more than a dozen scan apps to take with me
the next time I get over there.

And anyway, look, I seriously don't have any problem not helping out.
But in my OPINION, your help rules are wrong. Those few issues
I ran into last winter were solved not by those 5 hour long scan
sessions, but by normal off the cuff responses that people posted.
(Which by the way, I could have just lied and said I did. Something
I have observed at least a couple of times from others in there)
It would be very easy to simply let the person post the question, and
if somebody knows a direct fix let them respond to it. If not, then you give them
the list and tell them "get back to us when you're done with this list".
In all my situations people were able to help in spite of the rules,
not because of them. I mentioned in that post that you linked and you
didn't want to believe it, but I have my computer locked down tighter than
the majority of people I run into, computer geeks or otherwise.
I know practically every setting there is to know about when it comes
to computer security. Null sessions? Pffft. Kid stuff.
    Active x? Please.
I've been at this for 15 hours a day since last fall
(when I got layed off). I am one of 3 people that everyone goes to for
help on another board. And if you had bothered to read the posts
from this past few days (theres about 70 of them) you would see that I actually know what I am doing.
And as one final opinion on the spyware rules, it seems like you actually discourage
people from helping out posters just for the sake of making them do
"the routine". And I can't disagree with that any more. So no, I truly do not
have a problem with you passing on my help. Believe me.

All the rules were made for reasons. To bad you do not understand or care about them. Thousands of people have come here and fixed their simple problems just by running through the stickies. That helps them immediately and saves us valuable time so we can dedicate it to the more complex problems. Yes the sticky is long. It has to be in order to be generic and cover a very broad spectrum of possible problems.

Since you obviously think our whole setup is wrong perhaps it is best that you not bother trying to help here. I'm sure that many of the other hundreds of thousands of people we have helped would disagree with you.
