Thanks so much for the information in this thread!

SpyBot, Computer Associates and AdAware couldn't touch SpywareQuake. Then Google led me back here and I found the above-mentioned thread. Thanks again and I hope the attached smitfiles.txt results file can help you help someone else.

That's an excellent guide and the thing that surprised me is that I was running a corporate version of Webroot Spy Sweeper when the infection happened. At first I expected to find out this infection was something really, really new but was surprised to find out that was not the case. Not sure how it slipped by Spy Sweeper but I'm trolling around now to see if others are experiencing holes in Spy Sweeper's protection.

Well actually the SpywareQuake form is fairly new. So Spy Sweeper may not have caught up yet. The Smitfraud family of problems adds one or two per month. As far as Spy Sweeper is concerned, it is probably the best on the market at removing many difficult problems. I not sure it does a good job on the Smitfraud family or not. We always use SmitRem and some manual manipuation because no commercial products have ever been able to fix it in the past.
