   I have recently found files in my c:/ folder....sqmdata01.sqm through to sqmdata19.sqm.
   
   I googled it and moost links were to some malware or virus website, so I am guessing it is a bad object, but I cannot find any information on what it is, and if it can be erased.

   Welcome to Major Geeks!
   
   They are not malware. They are due to running Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger and enabling the Customer Experience Improvement Program. They will just keep appearing if you delete them unless you disable this. Open your Windows Live Messenger, go to Help -> Customer Experience Improvement Program and turn it off. Then delete the SQM files.
