I have installed windows xp sp1 64bit onto a Compaq Presario sr5130NX desktop (downgrade from Vista) and I have tried to load multiple GeForce updates, but I still cannot get the correct driver for ethernet controller, other pci bridge, sm bus controller. They all appear with yellow ? marks.

I can't update the windows xp version until I get connected, so I am stuck at sp 1 until the lan is functional. Here are my specs.

    Motherboard: Asus M2N68-LA
    Chip: Athlon 64 X2 (w) 3800 + 2 Ghz
    Chipset: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
    Integrated 10/100 base-t networking interface

I've tried GeForce/ION Driver Release 196 and the recommended nVidia nForce4 AMD Edition 6.70 WHQL with no luck. I don't know where to turn next, the hp website is no help and they want me to use the hpsetup utilities which since I have no internet connection is useless!

    Please help!

    Hi

Try these HERE for the ethernet, PCI, SMBus etc as they are part of the nForce Chipset, then if it does install ok reboot and check Device Manager again.

Many thanks for the quick response! The linked file worked without any problems, I would never have found the correct file myself!

Now I am having trouble finding the drivers for this PC. The audio is a Realtek ACC 888 Chipset.

I followed the instructions and loaded Realtek driver 2.11.15.0, but it didn't work.

    Thanks!

    Hi

Try these drivers HERE (the top Audio driver as its for the ALC888 and Windows XP64 and as your Compaqs motherboard is actually a sourced one from ASUS you never know it may work ok)

    No luck. :cry

The audio manager is installed, but there is still no sound. Any other ideas? Do you need more information from me?

    Thanks!

    Hi

Try looking in Services (control panel > Adminstrative tools) and looking down the list for Windows Audio and make sure its Started and its startup type is Automatic.

The windows audio service is started, but there is still no device associated with the windows audio service.

I have updated to windows xp sp 2 64 bit, but that still did not help. The device is installed and there is not an error on the device itself. It recognizes when headphones are plugged in, but there is still no sound. Here is what shows up about the drivers.

    - Realtek ALC888/1200 @ nVIDIA nForce 6100-430 (MCP61P) - High Definition Audio Controller PCI
    - nVIDIA nForce 6100-430 (MCP61P) - High Definition Audio Controller
    - Nothing shows up under windows audio

Here is information from my device manager.
    Sound, video and game controllers:
    Audio Codecs 5.2.3790.1830
    Legacy Audio Drivers 5.2.3790.1830
    Legacy Video Capture Devices 5.2.3790.1830
    Media Control Devices 5.2.3790.1830
    Realtek High Definition Audio 5.10.0.5404
    Video Codecs 5.2.3790.1830

I still have a five unknown devices after I updated the sound driver that were not there before. I also have UAA Bus Driver for high def audio loaded5.10.0.5010.

I have reinstalled SP 2, but under sp1 I could not get the sound to work.

I'm not sure where to look next. Thank you for any help you can offer. I am about ready to give up and buy another sound card.

    Regards

    Hi

In Audio properties, does it not give you a choice of audio default, under Audio Properties > Devices > Default Device dropdown?

So you installed already the UAA driver, actually was going to suggest that, didnt know it was applicable to XP64, but worth a go.

Just think we may need to find a different Audio driver, or more so a different hardware makers ALC888 audio driver, this is one of the pitfalls of downgrading, not all drivers work.

Actually follow the below and attach as listed the log created.

I forgot to answer your question. When I open the sound and audio devices properties in the control panel, it indicates "No audio device". I cannon select anything.

    TIA

    Hi

Uninstall the previous audio driver we installed and install this one HERE (just checked the files inclosed and they are for WinXP64 and the ALC888 audio chip, these files are direct from Realtek and maybe best hope of working.

I tried to download the driver, but the ftp site was looking for a login and password. Is there another site or uid/pswd?

    Thanks!

Still no luck when I downloaded the new file, I am just about ready to give up and buy a sound card.

After installing this file I still had two question marks in the device manager. When I googled the ids, they linked to audio issues with missing audio components and missing Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device. I ran the program to verify my windows xp installation and everything was fine with my install.

Here are codes for the hardware devices:
    SW\{a7c7a5b0-5af3-11d1-9ced-00a024bf0407}
    SW\{cd171de3-69e5-11d2-b56d-0000f8754380}

The information I found on-line was well beyond my technical understanding. It seems to be related to the WDM library.

Do you have any other ideas or should I give up? I have attached a revised device manager file in case it helps.

    Thanks for your help!

This may or may not work, http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/70881 the site is legit and I have used it many a time.

I gave up trying to find the correct drivers for windows xp 64 bit and just put windows Vista back on the PC and voila, I have sound!

I can live with Vista, since this has taken far too much of mine and your time.

    Thanks you for your help!

    Hi Miggs

    Cheers for the update

Seems that the driver or exact one needed for your PC hardware was a bit elusive, good option to re-install Vista as its driver did work, and you can train Vista to work how you want it too.

Your very welcome, just a pity we never found a compatible driver
