I need some advice on upgrading my Netbook's storage into an SSD... i have googled the upgrade but the only SSD that comes up on the search is this

    128GB Crucial m4 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s

    Part Number: CT1930492
Sustained Sequential Read: Up to 500 MB/s(SATA 6Gb/s)
Sustained Sequential Write: Up to 175 MB/s(SATA 6Gb/s)
4KB Random Read: Up to 45,000 IOPS
4KB Random Write: Up to 35,000 IOPS

I am wondering if any other brand is compatible to upgrade my netbook?
Is there brand restrictions on upgrading sony's system? I am looking for a much cheaper SSD brand and model but at the same capacity, can someone suggest a brand?

    thanks in advance :-D

I tend to lean towards OCZ myself.

Their read, as well as their write speeds tend to be pretty even in alot of their drives. I have a Vertex 3 which moves at 530/500 read/write. Programs install in a snap, and Windows installed in less than fifteen minutes.

Even some of OCZ's "low end" drives like the Agility pop off at 420/300.

It really depends on what you are doing with it, what size you need, and what generation of SATA your motherboard is when it comes to price. Gen 1 SATA boards run at about 25% of the rated SATA III speeds. I will definitely say they have come down in price markedly, and are well worth the investment.

Also, because you have a NetBook, you will most likely need a 1.8" drive, not a 2.5". Also, depending on age it could be PATA, or SATA. Check your specs, because that difference can blow the price through low earth orbit...

Decided to do some homework for you. According to Crucial, your maximum RAM memory is 2GB, the HDD form factor is 2.5", and your hard drive controller is SATAII.

The fact that it's 2.5" and SATAII will bring the cost down remarkably compared to a 1.8" drive. This would be my recommendation for a drive:

It's a good amount of storage, and like $60 after manufacturer rebate.

I'd opt for SATA III, the later SSD's usually have more fixes and are more reliable.

The most reliable brands are Intel, Crucial, Samsung and probably (too early to be sure) Plextor.

Whichever you opt for, update the firmware to the latest version before installing Windows.
