    I recently bought a MachSpeed MSNV-939 MoBo and AMD Athlon 64 CPU. I know the CPU has SSE2, but does the mainboard have it too, or is it up to the processor? I called the tech support at machSpeed, and he didn't even know what it was. I asked for another tech, who insisted that if the board supports the chip, it must support SSE.

    Nobody knows anymore about SSE than me?

    Look for a program called cpuz, which will tell you if your board supports sse2, i believe only intel processers do, but could be wrong. Its one or the other through, not both.

    I believe it is all about the processor architecture.

    CPUs supporting SSE2

    * AMD K8-based CPUs (Athlon 64, Sempron, Turion 64, etc)
    * Intel NetBurst-based CPUs (Pentium 4, Xeon, Celeron, etc)
    * Intel Pentium M and Celeron M
    * Intel Core-based CPUs (Core Duo, Core Solo, etc)

    LBMEST- I saw those pages, and it left me as confused as you. I know my last board, the Abit KN8 SLI, had a setting that was SSE enabled or disabled. This one doesn't, and it makes me wonder.

    Colmanguy- Thanks for pointing out that program, it confirmed that my processor supports SSE, SSE2, and SSE3. but it didn't say if my board does.

    If your cpu does, your board should as well. I don't know why it would offer the option to disable sse2 on your old board, theres really very little reason to do such a thing.

    I'm about two years behind technology, so I haven't got a clue. The local Geek Union has forbidden me to join. Since it was an actual setting on the Abit, I was under the assumption ( And you know what happens when you assume ;), that it was a feature like onboard SATA or USB. When I shopped for boards this time, it didn't dawn on me to check for it again. I checked the MachSpeed site, and it wasn't mentioned on the specs at all.
