I got one of these new amd antholon xp 3000+ 400fsb cpus right

i got 2 sticks of this coarsair xms 512 pc3200

and an msi kt88 mobo. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-474&depa=1

as well as a nvidia 6800 GT...

    but anyway

the point is: it says no model number and the operating frequency is at like 1.05

so i go in to bios and set the cpu to 200 x 10.5(clock reads 2100 like it SHOULD) as well as set the memory to 400

but i have some major stability problems...i try to play half like 2 and it just won't go..

    computer even reboots sometimes

    it's killing me..

    i've done...everything it seems like

all i can do now is put my auidigy 2 ZS into the 1st pci slot(in hl2 support they said that..COULD cause a problem maybe)

any other ideas? do i need to crank up voltage or what..

or am i a complete idiot?

    help

and if none of that makes sense

it's basically like i need to overclock it to get it to run at the speeds it should be running at but i get overclock problems(reboots and such)

If it's rebooting and such, is it running too hot? What kind of fan and heatsink did you put on it? Did you put thermal paste on the heatsink? Also, were the 2 sticks of memory purchased in a 512 mb x2 kit?

    yes i put paste

and no i bought 2 idividual sticks

the hottest i've seen it get was 49C (i had it at "normal" speeds with my powersupply fan and cpu fan all the way down)

but i suppose it goes higher while in games, i don't have an exhaust fan..but i do have a huge intake fan in the front(and if it's "normal" speeds the temp should be fine shouldnt it?)

it appears i can't edit my last post(unless my eyes are playing tricks on me)

but i thought i would say i'll probly get another fan but

    what are other possibilities?

edit:eek:r is it that you can only edit once? or not...wtf

What do you mean by normal? 49c at idle say 5% cpu usage or less is a little warm and could get hot when playing games. I always add case fans or upgrade hsf to keep temps around 40c idle and no higher than 55c under full load.

well i got a big ol exhaust fan but it doesn't seem to be cooling it down much...

should i make it blow inward?

while playing doom3 i alt tabbed and the software temp reader said..51 or 52C i think

i might have been under estimating normal temperatures

and what i meant by normal was overclocked

    (becuase default is increbily...underclocked?)

  7. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

That temp while playing doom3 ain't bad as long as it don't get above 60c

That depends on where you put it in general lower front blows in, mid to upper rear blows out, top(blowhole) blows out and side fans need to be tried in both directions to see what works best. I prefer a side to blow in on the ram or video card.

If you are overclocking that changes things try clearing your cmos then go into bios and load something like optimized defaults then check and see if the fsb is at 200 if it ain't then change it, then set the ram clock to 200. These are the stock settings and should work, try them to see if you are stable.

the default fsb was 100 andi need to put it to 200 to get the processor to be what it should

    that's my main problem...

i have fsb at 200(but that wasn't the original default) x 10.5(or auto but auto always sets it to 10.5 so...)

how do i set the ram clock?

    shigs Private E-2

(wtf is up with not being able to edit once you navigate away...)

    but anyway

you mean clear cmos as in when you short those 1 pins with the jumper right?
(i already did it once but i've updated the bios since then)

i've said it before..but..it always is at 100fsb and when i change it to 200(technically..overclocking) i have stability issues(games quit, computer rebots, i get this damn memory error in hl2, etc.)

    Doby Sergeant

200 fsb is the correct setting for your cpu, check your mobo manual and see if there is a jumper to set fsb as this will override bios settings, set jumber if there is one to 200 if there is not then you set it in bios.

In bios under advanced chipset features, dram clock if this is set to SPD the bios will read the dram module and auto set the clock. Try this if it don't work manually set it to 200.

With the power cord unpluged move the jumper from pins 1&2 to pins 2&3 for a minute or 2 then move back to 1&2.
Do this before you set up the fsb and ram clock. You should also do this after upgrading bios.

Try the above and see if it helps if not its time to test ram with memtest86.

    AXDA3000DKV4E 3000+ 2100MHz 10.5x is the one i have (400fsb..but i knew that already)

i already added a cmos clear to my list, i recently updated my bios as a possible solution so time to do it again

so i'll do that then set the dram clock and see what everything else is at

thanks for everyones help so far

  13. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

i can't find how to set the memory to 200

it was already at auto and my toehr options are turbo and ultra

then manaul but all i see is CAS# latency

and some other things with #T

when i play hl2(that is...before it quits) my cpu runs around 51C and 53C with doom3(i still don't know how doom3 is running so we'll just forget about that...)

which doesn't seem high enough to shut down from overheating...

what else is left other than a memory test?

  14. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

Leave your ram setting at auto, I don't know enough about your bios with out looking at it to tell you anymore.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1247.html

It won't hurt to test the ram try it.

    Your temps are ok

all that's left is a memory test...let's see how it goes

Another question, your 2 sticks of corsair ram are they a dual channel kit sometimes called a matched pair?

I am going to download your manual and have a look

    Rick

  17. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

Ok, I read some reviews on your board and it seems the board/bios has some problems recognizing the cpu and some other things and you need to set it up manually.
So let me know if your ram is a dual channel kit and what dimms the ram is installed in?

Then we will start over and set everthing up and see how if it helps.

If you got errors that stick is bad and is your problem, it is under warrenty so rma it. Check the other stick and report back.

You don't have dual channel ram so installing them in dimm's 1&2 is correct. If the 2nd stick is error free then install in dimm 1 and see if your problems are corrected.

    Rick

  20. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

so a good stick should have zero errors?

    hmmmm

  21. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

i got errors when i tested the otherstick as well

    also in test 5

all of the errors i got for both sticks were in test 5...this concerns me

or are errors errors and that's it they are bad?

  22. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

Both sticks are bad you need new ram

  23. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

    well that sucks...

is there anyway it could read errors...on accident?

guess i'll start the rma process....

  24. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

Not that I ever heard of

  25. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

well now i gotta send both of the damn things back and i'm without a computer for god knows how long...

  26. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

i got my new memory in the mail(i only sent one back so far) and it appears that stick is bad aswell..

all of the errors in all three sticks was on test 5...is there anyway a mobo problem could be cuasing this?

  27. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

I don't think so and never seen this but there is obviously something wrong.

Download memtest again and retest the only thing I can think of at the moment is a bad download

    Rick

  28. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

Ok lets go over your bios setup, I have read were there are problems with your board/bios and you need to manualy set it up.

    In bios under cell_menu

    High performane mode Manual
    Dynamic overclock Disabled
    DDR memory frequence 400 mhz
    cpu fsb frequency 200
    cpu ratio Auto
    cpu voltage 1.65
    memory voltage 2.60
    agp voltage 1.55

Don't forget to save when you exit
Try these settings they are stock and see if the problem persists. If it does raise the memory voltage to 2.65 and see if any better.

Let me know how it works, if for some reason the computer won't boot just clear the cmos.

    Rick

    shigs Private E-2

    alright

i'm about 99% sure it's not my memtest download...becuase i get memory errors and applications crash..if you think making a new disk will fix that(i don't see how that's possible......) then i'll do it

my settings were at exactly what you said except i changed cpu volt. from auto to what you said(which is also what my cpu should be running at)

i've been playing games like counter strike: course, americas army, anarcy online, lineage 2 with 1 stick of the new memory(the one that i got when i sent a stick back[which when i tested had errors]) and they played ok

i got frustrated and put the remaining (original) stick in and i get errors within 5 minutes from starting those games

last thing to do it bump up the memory voltage which i will do right now

i'll post again if the problems still occur

  30. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

i changed it to 2.65 and i got the problems

i lowered it to 2.55 and i made it through 1 round of cs before it quit

what now?(other than the obvious of sending back the memory)

  31. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

Hmm, I ain't sure at this point it bothers me that the ram has errors witch almost always is a problem but why 3 sticks with the same error especially when you returned one.

What bothers me more is why does it runs so good with only one stick installed if thr ram was bad it shouldn't

Maybe it is a flaky mobo.

    Anyone else with any ideas?

    Rick

  32. Doby

    Doby Sergeant

I was just over your manual again and I know we went over this before but are the ram sticks in dimm 1 and dimm 2? This is where they should be installed to not run in dual channel

Your manual states that to run dual channel the ram has to be in dimm1 and dimm3 maybe try this even though you don't have a matched pair and see what happens.

I was just woundering, are you setting your memory speed & timings manually, or by auto.
I was just thinking if the memory timming's were set too Agressive that could result in error's on the memorry test.
If setting manually try auto, or relax the timings.
Auto is usually a conservetive setting.
Or set to manual, set timmings slower than rated & maybe set memory voltage to 2.7 or even 2.8v sometimes memory need's alittle xtra juice, then if you can pass memory test, begin trying to set timings closer to manufacture rated timings.
Doinking around with the memory timings can sometimes be time consuming ordeal.

ASUS, I am glad you have some ideas I have been over and over this and can't figure it out. I know in the beginning he had some bios settings off but with what he reports that should be resolve except maybe them ram timings. The reason I say this is because I have read where his board/bios has trouble using auto settings and some users have to manual set it up and now with fsb,ram clock, and voltages manually set its running better but he can't run 2 sticks of ram.

I was wondering how much voltage he could give the ram, maybe uping to 2.8 and and playing with the timings will help.

From the beginning I thought this was a setup problem but I can't put my finger on it.

    Rick

  35. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

i haven't messed with the timings

pass me some numbers and i'll try em out

i'm willing to try just about anything

(for the record i'm pretty sure i had errors with only one stick but they were farless common than 2 sticks)

  36. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

i got my 4th stick in the mail now

and i got errors in test 5

    this is not possible...

    any ideas?

  37. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

right now i have the timings at 2-3-3-6-1T and 2.6v(these are the defaults for my memory) and i still got the test 5 errors, there was alsoe a tRFC number that i couldn't set to auto(from 12T to 15T) so i set it to 13T...any ideas?

what are some other numbers i should try

  38. shigs

    shigs Private E-2

    so i guess i'm uh...on my own
