    Hi all,

The LCD display on my Toshiba L350 laptop started flickering for approx. 10 minutes then went blank. I plugged in my spare CRT monitor which works fine. When I press FN+F5 and I can sometimes see the LCD display flash on for maybe half a second then it goes blank again. Also if I boot the computer from cold ( without the external monitor connected) I can see the Toshiba front screen flash up for 1 second then no other display until I plug the external monitor in again. I look like an intermittent connection.

I’ve tried running system restore, re-installing the video driver and checking the BIOS. What makes me think it could be software related is when I checked the display tab in the BIOS it showed the following' Power on display [auto selected] and HDMI disabled'. After resetting the BIOS to the default setting I re-checked the display tab to find that the HDMI had been set to enables and a new entry 'remote power on/off had been set to enabled. I saved and exited BIOS. However after re booting the BIOS setting had been revered back to the original settings. I'm still not sure if the BIOS issue is a red herring !

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Geoff.

I recently had a very similar issue on a Dell Latitude. The Built-in Self-Test indicated to check the LCD cable. After checking the hardware manual I decided that it would be too difficult for me to open up that laptop. So I called Dell, and within a day they came and replaced the LCD (replacing the LCD connection in the process).

Watching them doing it (for 1+ hour) I could see that my decision was right.

If I were in your situation I would call Toshiba, or visit the nearest Toshiba store.

Many thanks for the prompt responce but I don't thinks its a display problem for the following reason:

Whilst waiting for a responce I ran an AVG PC tuneup virus checker and once complete the LCD screen came back as normal. I ran the computer for approx. half an hour and then decided to do re-boot as a final check.

When the computer re-booted the Toshiba screen came up, then the windows wellcom screen. At this point the screen started flashing slightly, then getting worse and after approx. 30 seconds the screen went blank. Now if I hold down FN+F5 the screen will flicker on then go off. I feel sure its a software bug!

    Any comments would be wellcome.
    Regards
    Geoff.

Can you try going into BIOS Setup during startup? Is the LCD display normal then?

If yes, maybe updating your display adapter's device driver may help?

    Hi,
As requesed I started the laptop without the external monitor, pressed F2 to open in the BIOS screen and the LCD screen come on as normal. However, I then connected the external monitor and tried Fn+F5 to see it it would cycle round and back to LCD only. All worked fine until it tried to cycle back to LCD mode at which point I lost the LCD screen and not been able to repeate the above test and get the LCD screen back again. Sometimes when I press Fn+F5 the LCD screen does flash on just long enough for me to see the BIOS screen id being displayed.

The only test that seems repeatable is when I switch on from cold and press F8 and enter safe mode.
I've also tried saving the default BIOS settings but it wont let me. it also seem to prevent me from running any of the other debugging programs.
I've also tried updating the display drivers.

    Any further suggestion?

    Geoff
