stalling while installing vista

I have been trying to install vista on my pc but with no luck, it runs xp fine and is currently running vista, that was already installed on a mates hard drive,
the problem is cant install on my hd.

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
core 2 duo e6600
2x 1gb gskill ram
wd2500ks 250gig western digital sata II hd
ASUS DRW-1608P2S DVD-R drive
MSI NVIDIA 7900GT/GTO

it goes through the install fine, expands the files... reboots and sits on the completing installation for as long as you will wait. try to manaully restart and it boots but before u get it in says its encountered an error and need to start the install again.

i've tried reflashing the bios to the latest version f8 and tried an older lower spex graphics card. lost now with no idea of what to do!!!
help please

solved it this morning, was a hdd problem and it was replaced under warranty, but still very strange cause it was still accesible in vista once installed on a new drive and the "faulty" drive had no problems re installing xp
best of luck mate im now in vista and its awesome
a little buggy with some programs but that will pass with new software and new drivers
