I changed my ASPI uniprocessor HAL to standard pc on my alienware aurora m9700 laptop with windows xp media center edition and now no matter what attempt at start up, any safe modes or regular, even the last known good configuration bsod's with the stop : 0x0000007b error and i can not get windows to load at all, is there any way I could get a system restore point before i changed, or alter the drivers before windows trys to start? I was able to bring up a seperate list along with the safe mode list that gave me options like disable automatic restart, debug, etc but I am unable to return to that list now and am not sure how I got that list to appear in the first place, any help at all would be appreciated as I don't have an xp disc to reinstall, or repair with, also when i talked to the alienware support guy, he refused to give me the full details on how to fix it as it is out of warranty, but he mentioned one issue that i am also having problems with, during my attempts to fix my computer my computer will randomly just turn off completely all on it's own, and when talking to him, he did mention that there was an automatic shutoff program built in that could be turned off, but only once windows was up and running, so not very helpful there either. So I'm afraid that even if I had a windows xp disc, that program would kick on and stop in midway every time, the only other thought I personally have would be if I had a windows disc and I wiped the drive completely before installing the os again, but I would really really really not want to resort to that unless all other options were gone as I have had it for over 2 years and there are lots of files in there that are not saved to other systems that I'd prefer not to lose, thanks

Hmm. Can you check your BIOS to see if any changes in there may affect, as changing your ACPI to something else.

What is the full error it is giving if you can get it and write it here.

Because, I did find this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103
Which talks about that BSOD stop error, and states its one of these three issues:

A device driver that the computer boot controller needs is not configured to start during the startup process.
A device driver that the computer boot controller needs is corrupted.
Information in the Windows XP registry (information related to how the device drivers load during startup) is corrupted.

Any of those cases still point to the fact you will probably be needing a Windows XP Rescue CD/Install CD.. Do you have anyone that you can get a loan of a CD from?

Also, your "Hal.dll" is probably the root cause of the issue, and will be corrupt once you get past the stop error. And as far as the computer turning off midway, it seems that it might be because of the fact of your changing your ACPI settings, and now its overheating.

Once again, check the BIOS and get that Win XP install cd.

I'm not sure how to check my bios from the very start, or even how to change those things, my knowledge revolves around windows being working, the beforehand i havent had much experience in yet, as for the overheating, it isnt, it does that really early off after the computers been started, the whole thing is still very cool when it cuts off, so i'm thinking that program is conflicting, and as for a new disc, i am working on finding one, but I know the only problem is that it was set to standard pc and the computer didn't like that, it shouldn't be corrupt if i can get it reverted back to uniprocessor hal, just getting it set there again without being able to log in to windows.....

    Hello again.

Alright, when you turn your PC on, does it have any options what so ever for choices? Like F4 Setup...ect?

Or does it go straight to BSOD?

    Thanks.

ok, it starts out with the alien head and hit del to enter setup which goes to a black screen with the red amd logo and alot of text scrolling down as it loads up, f8 takes me to the actual setup for the boot discs, security and that entire start up side menu, beyond that that's all I have, or know how to get to, the bsod does not appear until it gets to the windows loading screen and then it hits

Okay, when you press f8, its gonna bring you to a bunch of options check to see if in those options if it gives you someplace That says, "Basic Configuration, or Advanced Configuration" or just try playing around.

Edit: Play around to get to the configuration, because then your looking for ACPI or HAL.

i cant find anything except advanced settings, which lists, nvidia raid setup quick boot, quiet boot, bootup num-lock, network boot, legacy usb support, and wireless power settings, and in the boot listing, it gives me the three boot devices, and hard disk drives, that's basically all there is other than security, and main which only offers serial-ata 2 primary and secondary channel and the secondary ide master

Does anyone know how to get the extra options on the safe mode list screen? I had the options up once but haven't been able to get back there since, like debug and disable auto shutoff.
