Start and shut-down screens

any one know how to remove the start-up and shut-down screens?

i want to see what is going on while the machine is starting.
"non-gui start-up"

This is how to turn off the welcome screen:

1. Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
2. Click Change the way users log on or off.

it's self-explanatory from there

I'd like to learn how to turn off the shut-down screen as well.

What you probably want is the following:

 

ok; i did both suggestions and still have blue boot screens.

the first suggestion changed the look of the start and shutdown screens,

the latter gave a short black command line view but then went blue screen with info of some operations but still not what i want.

it would be nice if i could get the same non gui boot like linux. yeh, i know xp ain't linux...

also, i would really like to get rid of having different profile settings, ie; admin setttings, user a settings, user b settings, common user settings, excettera... and have one set of settings for everything.

one last thing; it would be nice if there was a full discription of each item in the services section of msconfig so i know what i want enabled.
