Start Up Stuff

The help site at NAV 2004 is telling me that there are too many items in my start up menu. Does anyone know the easy way to eliminate some things and a useable list of the things I must keep checked on the start up menu? I'm using a Pentium 4 Presario 6000 with Windows XP. I've found some lists but they are difficult to understand and the information isn't very definite on what to keep and what to uncheck.
