He will be trying to cut down on the number of statup applications, alot are not really needed at startup and can be disabled from starting at boot, if you need them they you can just run them from the start > programs list.

    ehtray http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/ehtray/
    igfxtray http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/igfxtray/
    hkcmd http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/hkcmd/

would be the ones I would loose out of that list, they can be accessed from the Control Panel usually and Media Centre tray is upto you but you can access that in the menus of MCE.

The ones I'm not sure of are the HP items as the full application ( .exe ) is not listed, but generally the printer or camera items dont need to start, either post the full .exe or disable and try, if something doesnt work re-enable it.

No as those are all tray shortcut icons to menus that you can either find in the Control Panel in the case of the Intel GFX settings/options and from within MCEs options/settings menu..... but you could create a Start Menu > Programs ( say a new folder called SysTray programs ) shortcut to those applcations if needed, thus removing them from the tray and startup at boot, then they would be easily found when needed.

But open the tray menus up, look what they are like and then try the Intel ones in Control Panel/Display Properties > Settings > Advanced, are they the same, if so you dont need them to startup, I did this with my Nvidia tray icon.. its the same menus as in Display Settings and Control Panel for Nvidia.

They are just quick shortcuts in essence.

( hope this reads right as I'm typing while in a meeting! )

I can't tell what most of them are without doing a search, one by one, then some are not found. How do you tell your not disabling something important?

A sort-of-decent program that may help out:

    Startup Inspector:

Once installed and running, click (If recall correctly) consult, it should give explanations on what is okay to remove. It isn't perfect, but fairly decent.

I'm so sorry didn't notice your quote before. On a different computer now with the same problem. I deleted the one I had because I thought it was getting rid of some of my programs. Going to give it another try though, so much running and not knowing what most are (it can't hurt) or get any worse anyway, let's hope.
    It's the one you recommended
