I just bought a friends older computer, dell 2400 512 ram 2.4 processor, and i want to upgrade the video card, I bought one and then learned of the diffrence of agp and pci, my question is I have an ati radeon agp and want to know if it is compatible or if i just screwed up and blew some cash?

Just fit it to the AGP slot in the motherboard and load the drivers and it should work just fine. :)

Well if you want to play games (I assume games?) without an AGP slot your really left with PCI which isn't preferred now a days!

you could get a Radeon X1550 256MB PCI which would pimp up your graphics and games playing ability quite a bit over on board graphics. Although 512MB main memory will limit most of todays games quite alot as will the CPU.

PCI really is obsolete today as a method to connect GPU's with the system. AGP has been all but overtaken by PCIe as the preferred method of connecting that new GPU to the system.

Go for the above if and only if you want to play some games from the past few years but expect low performance and no support for your PCI adapter from certian titles. Don't forget to add at least another 512MB RAM in order to pump up the performance some more.. another thing to keep in mind is locate the System Restore/Recovery disc and use it (it will format and reinstall the entire system, backup your documents!) as a way to get a fresh start on that old beast.

    Good Luck!:major
