    Hi

I'm starting to try and put together from scratch a useable computer.
I have been given a motherboard that a friend's computer tec said
was bad. He replaced the power supply the mother board the cpu and
bought a new copy of windows xp. And still had the same problem he had
when he started. no sound. I believe this was the result of two different problems. lost drivers on orginal setup and failing to run setup on new motherboard. this does not change the fact that he could have gotten bad advice on his orignal problem, and the motherboard i have is good
I have hooked up the board and my first question is if it is possable that the 4 way power plug from the power supply in the middle of board needs to b3e pluged in?

i have attached a photo of board i found on net

He was not conected to net at the time his problems started. so he had no way to check drivers for being problem.
I took a look at his problem and after finding disk that came with new motherboard, ran that disk and fixed his problem.
this is why i think the origanal mother board is still good.
i have tried to research the board on the manufacure website with no luck.
the board is a ASUS PTGO LA
My first question is this How to find out the cpu type I have the following info
n3524889 A3724 this is off the numbers on the edge of cpu

I also wrote down numbers off the front of his computer
    630 INTEL 4
    Pavilion Q124

I have to step out for about 1/2 hour this may give you all time to look into
    this situtation.

you guys have been more help than ANY OTHER PLACE i have ever found
    and thanks in adavance

    Rob B.

I have a bit more info
    the cpu is a pentium 4 -3.0gh

and the most important question is if the 4 way plug on motherboard needs to be pluged in ?

If the square 4-pronged plug is the one you're referring to, yes it needs plugged in. This is actually the plug that supplies the power to your CPU
