Startpag.re Trojan - Cannot remove

I'm looking for help to remove the Trojan Startpag.re. I'm running XP with PC-Cillin and every time I launch IE I get a blank IE page. PC-Cillin pops up and tells me I have the trojan. I've read the sticky and followed all the instructions but still can't remove the trojan. I would like to run HJT and post my log file but need help.

    Thanks.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Download HijackThis 1.99.1

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifBefore running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifRun HijackThis and save your log file.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

Okay, I ran HJT and after reading the Tutorial fixed what I thought should be fixed. It wasn't much. I reran HJT and attached is the log file.
I still have a lot of 04 - Autoloading programs. I searched for everyone of them in the PacMans Startup list but very few were in the list. What should I do next?

Let's see if TH can make a dent in some of those infections!

    1) Download TrojanHunter

    2) Install TrojanHunter, At the end of the install setup will prompt you to update definitions. Please do so!

    3) Once installed and updated, select drive C:\ and do a Full Scan. Remove all found infections!

After you complete the above, reboot and attach a fresh HJT log.

It got late last night so I decided to call it a night. I did as you asked. I ran Trojan Hunter. The virus is still there. Attached is my HJT Log.

    Thanks for your continued help.

Are you disabling this service because its still showing?

Please print out these instructions so that you can operate with All Browser Windows CLOSED.

Please make sure System Restore is OFF and the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders is Enabled as per the tutorial.

Now, look in Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) for the following running process and, if you see iy, try to END it:

    nthx.exe

Now scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

Again, make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    NEXT:
Open up HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I

You may be told to reboot at this point. Do not reboot just exit HijackThis and we will be restarting it with different options in a moment.

    NOW:
Please boot into Safe Mode with the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders Enabled and navigate to and DELETE the following if they should remain:

    C:\WINDOWS\nthx.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\addss32.dll

    C:\WINDOWS\ievg32.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\ntom.dll

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntfw.exe

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

I followed you instructions line by line but let me give you better detail to make sure I don't leave any important information out. I hope I haven't left anything out that is causing confusion.

The service is disable but it's name is not exactly as you have printed. The service name I'm seeing is "Workstation NetLogon Service" without the "( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I)". Maybe it's a different service?

As for the fix, there were two lines that I did not fix because they did not exist.
    They are:
    O2 - BHO: Class - {A9AA764C-4DF4-9D6E-2FEE-AF3AB6C73396} - C:\WINDOWS\addss32.dll

    O23 - Service: Workstation NetLogon Service ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\apivp.exe" /s (file missing)

The others were there and I fixed them.

In the HJT Config I selected "Delete an NT Service" and added 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I. When I hit OK I got the following message. "Service was not found in the registry. Make sure you entered the short name of the service., vbExclamation."

I rebooted in Safemode and deleted all the files in the list except, C:\WINDOWS\ntom.dll. This dll did not exist.

I finished the final steps then rebooted to Normal Windows. When I logged in I got two error messages.

    (Header) ntta32.exe - bad image
(Detail) The application or dll c:\Windows\sdkjc.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I got same error message again except it said winbe.dll is not vaild.

I hope this detail will help. Thanks.
