More than likely a mobo issue, BUT... to help diagnose you should remove all parts that are not required for boot. (I.E. PCI devices, hard drives, optical drives) The fact that you're not getting power via the onboard USB ports though is a pretty clear indication that the motherboard is failing. Only other thing that I can think of is a bad PSU, but that's not nearly as likely

    Hi Rox,

Borrow PS2 Keyboard and mouse until you get it running. USB can do strange things especially with older systems.

    Good Luck, Jim

If you reset the CMOS, chances are the computer is trying to use the default PS/2 devices. If those ports are bad, you can't get into the BIOS to enable the USB because you don't have a working keyboard.
    I don't think there is a solution without a working PS/2 keyboard.

have changed the jumper to the clear data setting without restarting pc then back to the keep data setting and booting with same message do i have to restart with the jumper on the clear data setting for this to work book states you can clear cmos by shorting 2-3 pin while system is off. then return to 1-2 possition which i did not starting pc till back to 1-2 pos then it says to avoid clearing the cmos while the system (I dont do anything with the machine plugged in) is on as it will damage the motherboard

    Hi Again Rox,

True that the CMOS usually will not reset by removing battery if left plugged in but, probably will not damage anything. Some MBs may need the battery left out several hours. The Jumper turns off the battery and discharges the Caps in the circuit almost instantly so should not need the comp unplugged.

    Luck, Jim
