startup problems

Hi all,
You've offered valuable help in the past, so I'm hoping you can shed light on my current situation. Approximately one month ago, my browser was hijacked with the about:blank virus. We ran numerous virus scans and spyware cleaners and have since had no problems.

HOWEVER, approx 10% of the time when we start the computer, we get to the black Windows screen....saying Windows was not shut down properly...would we like to start in safe mode or normally. Additionally, TrendMicro's scan is the only scan where we are flagged with a virus (TROJ DownPorn) that is supposedly uncleanable. Are these two problems linked? If so, any recomendations on how to proceed. (Fingers crossed!)

 

More than likely they are linked.

Lets start with a General Cleanup!

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

• Download HijackThis 1.99.1

• Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

• Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file.

• Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

• Run HijackThis and save your log file.

• Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).
