    Hi rick71,
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

This might be a malware problem and it might be a software problem. Have you recently installed software just preceeding these symptoms? If so, did you try uninstalling it or going back to a restore point from before that time?

I looked through your logs and don't see anything glaring that makes me think malware, but if you would like to go through the standard cleaning procedures, this would in any case either confirm or close out the possibility of malware and thereby narrow your problem down. If you want to do this, please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST and attach the requested logs.

I put the logs you posted into attachment form, because that's the preferred way of handling them here.

hi, thanks for responding to my problem. unfortunately, and this may be a function of my computer illiteracy, i have not gotten anywhere with all the "stuff" i've done. i've completed the basic maintence items suggested by major attitude. i've gone through the step prescribed in the vista cleaning procedures. still the icons on my desk top are all i.e. icons. and when i click on, lets say itunes, i get a pop-up "file download - secutity warning" asking me if i want to open or save the file. the file name extention is .Ink. the logs of all the malware/spyware programs i installed and ran were clean. i'm therefore probably talking to the wrong group. but if anyone has a suggestion i would very much appreciate the help.

    Hi rick71,
I've heard of this before or something very similar that came up in the Software Forum quite some time back. I advise you to install and run the MGTools and let us look at those logs before you switch over to Software.

chaslang has posted the correct link, thanks! i really don't know how/why this happened but i appreciate your concern/help, abri. i'm sure it has something to do with being computer dumb. anyway, it's fixed and that's the important thing.
