Hello, I have the exact same problem. But I dc all the time - gaming is impossible and broswer starts lagging every 5-10 minutes. Errror is always the same (DNS server one). I have static IP and I think that only one open port by default. But it shouldn't be a problem if I make exceptions in firewall right :/?
I don't know how to change DNS server or even to post them. If you'd tell me which IP from ipconfig /all should I post then I'd gladly do.

    Hi

Just highlight all the text from ipconfig /all and paste into a text file (notepad) then attach as per HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Do also tell us what Windows version and service pack you are using?
What Router, make and model you are using?
What security software you are using? (Antivirus and Firewall etc)
What internet service and speed you have paid for?
What Game/s are causing the problem?

Have you disabled your firewall completly to test as it may not be the issue? if you disable it and its fine then possibly a port needs opening but if its the same when the Firewall is disabled, then opening a port will not help as it will be another issue.

I'm using Windows 7 with all the latest updates.

    Router is Axesstel MV410.

    Avast Antivirus and Windows Firewall.

    I'm paying for Estonia's Tele2 Kõu internet service and at it's high points it's about 250 kb/s ( :( )
    Their homepage

    www.energia.ee/et/home/internet/settings

has sthing about how to configurate the internet - quote:
"open port 113. E-mail server (SMTP) address: mail.kou.ee
nameserver (DNS) address: 81.21.240.1 ja 81.21.255.1"

Oh and it appears I have dynamic IP address. Sry about that.

Pretty much all internet games. Lately World of Warcraft - when all is good then ping is 70-150ms and every 5-10 minutes or more often it jumps to 1k-10k ms and nearly disconnects me (or just disconnects me).
With other games for example Warcraft 3, Diablo and Counter Strike it's impossible to host anything and often doesn't find the hosted game either.

http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/8855/commandprompt.jpg This is how my command promt looks like. Sorry for not attaching the text file - couldn't copy it >.< and jpg was too big to attach.

I've disabled Firewall pretty often but I Think it hasn't helped anything. Lagspikes are the same in both browser and games.

EDIT: The errors are switching between "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding." and then sometimes "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)."

With diagnose or MSN troubleshooter I used to get it working but now pretty often it won't work even after those.

    Hi

yeah 240kb/s is not perfect for online gameplay but I would try the following and see if it helps.

To test only disable Avast and run your game (Windows built in Firewall should be fine), does it run better or worse?

The DNS you listed is your ISPs email by the looks of it, my Eesti is not great, so try this and use Googles Public DNS servers and see if they help, all instructiosn HERE

Make sure you also have no other running apps that maybe using the internet at the same time as playing online games, such as p2p, messenging apps etc

Mm disabling Avast didn't change anything. It's all fine until the lagspike occurs. Changing DNS servers definetely didn't worsen the things - here's an example:

It's all fine until the lagspike - made some more similar traces.

EDIT: Damn I forget something every damn time :D sry.
Should I do that in other PC too? My router is shared with mine and mom's PC. (Oh and internet problems aren't cause of her downloading or sthing, don't worry.)

Atm it seems great, I'll keep testing. Warding off another lagspike.

    Hi

Could you try one of the online games on your moms PC just to test, basically so we can rule of your internet connection as the issue, if it works ok on her PC then you have an app on yours or out of date driver causing the issue.

Looking at your Tracert the routing of your internet is suffering some bad speed, have you contatced your ISP to aks if they are having issues in your area?

Try a Tracert to forums.majorgeeks.com and post the pic, this will give me a good idea of your speed compaired to mine to same server.

Yup, mom's having the same lagspikes. And neighbours have the same ISP - it's not about the area. Speed is as slow as it is but problems are the spikes :/ .

Internet has been pretty okish for a while - not at it's best but lagspikes have been really short (about 5-30 seconds) and they aren't disconnecting, just some 300-1k ms ping.

Update: Got serious disconnecting lagspikes today multiple times. One moment net is fine then comes the lagspike/disconnect which lasts about 1+ minutes and then net is fine again. I guess the only solution is to get better ISP with better router -.-, thanks for your help :)
