win xp pro-problem staying connected on dial-up

I have windows XP PRO. I have dial up (Netscape) service. I downloaded a free antivirus (Avast4.7) and I think it deleted a system file, I am not sure. I run the software and it deleted some files that were infected with trojans.I connect to internet and after few seconds computer restarts. The reason appear on the screan it says that “windows cannot log on” or something like that. I tried to restore the system to a previous state but I cannot do it because there is only one moment back available and this is after the changes took place.( I mean antivirus scanning). Is there a file I can download from internet ( on another pc) to make my other computer stay connected on internet? Do you know what could have happened? Or is there a setting might a virus have changed and I can redo it?
    Thank you

If you have verified that your basic dial up settings have not changed you could try TCP Optimizer to see if that will help. This program often will fix connection issues and it's freeware. If it doesn't work it can restore your settings to their previous state before applying the tweaks.

As you had a virus it is highly possible you still have an issue and this may well be the cause of your problem. Please follow the steps in our READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support thread to see if you still have any malicious activity going on. If you have any difficulty with the steps just start a thread in the Malware Forum and someone will assist you further.:)
