steps to take after full install to remove critoni ransomware

Hi,

My son's computer had an antivrus program and he'd occasionally run malwarebytes however, his virus became infected with critoni ransomware. After unsuccessfully trying to remove it, I reinstalled win 7 from the a bootable usb drive.

The installation prompted for me the partition to install and I chose the OS partition. the other partitions were a recovery partition and a data partition.

I haven't connected to the internet yet, but in thinking about it, I'm wondering if I should have formatted the partitions prior to re-installing the software? Anyhow, is there anything I should do now or am I good to go?

You would have been safer to have removed the recovery and data partitions. There is a very strong chance that the data partition files are infected. The recovery partition could also be infected but that is less likely.

thanks, makes sense, can I format those partitions now using a utility off the ubcd?

There are tools for changing/updating/combining partitions without starting over but those are questions that really should be asked in the Software Forum not here in the Malware Forum.
