Sticky on browser and search engine problems

I am setting up a fresh instance of Win7. Seeing the stickie on browser redirection etc. I don't even know how to adequately describe the problem. I may just have to start over.

But here is what happened: I used an installer for a free program which I've used in the past. However, now there are innumerable questions and answer options for additional software. Selecting the 'skip' option doesn't register or is ignored.

Is there any way to use progs like Hijack This to get rid of these things? If this sort of thing is covered in the stickie I'll start that tomorrow.

What is infuriating is that once the .exe starts it seems there's no stopping it.

    OK.

Just a quick ask about one other thing. I'm doing a scratch install. Will the
cleaning process get rid of those pop ups which are always lower screen right? They are in everything-- a swear I saw one in my Thunderbird mail program.

I'll begin the cleaning routine when I have the printed sheet in hand-- I may still have that in my paper file box.

Has Windows been reinstalled now then?

With a clean install I would imagine you'd be okay.
Yes I'll know more once you attach all of the requested logs. :)

I know what you are asking. No, this is a brand new WD black with
    Win764 style.

In the past I have used HDD Guru's low format program to prep used HD.s

Is low formatting still necessary for something like a brand new Western Digital? I got the idea someplace to avoid it in this instance.

    I have no idea, sorry.

I am now through the steps including MG tools.

Will attach the first log which is JRT to the next post after reviewing how to do that.
A quick look showed JRT removed quite a few items. Usually when I had run it
before this junkware software, JRT would come up clean. That will be the first item until instructed to provide any more.

    OK continue on :)

Glad to continue on. I will mount that install again tomorrow and tell me in what order you want the remaining logs.

Malwarebytes has one-- someplace Maybe I moved it to the desk top.

    Plus the others.

I have completed all scans and am removing (might be called dismounting) the problem Win7 drive until some word about anything is given.

Whether there are 'still problems' I cannot resolve.

Do you want me to send my completed scan from Malwarebytes (second I think in the series) which was made in order (as were the others.)?

We want you to attach all of the requested logs in your next post, so Kestrel13! can inspect them for malware.

  14. loninappleton

    loninappleton Corporal

    ok.

Those will be on the next post.

Are you still with us? :confused

  16. loninappleton

    loninappleton Corporal

Yes still here. I'm concerned that I won't have everything in your careful order.
Also it seemed that the last logs MG Tools were in a different format than text.

I simply don't have the drive attached at the moment.

No problem. Just attach logs when you can. I'll be floating around somewhere. ;)

    My logs.

Just tried the upload of 5 items as requested and the connection timed out.

Can I send them one at a time in sequence or try to load all 5 again?

  19. Kestrel13!

Kestrel13! Super Malware Fighter - Major Dilemma Staff Member

Try again with all 5, use a different browser if necessary. If that fails just try attaching them seperately.

    loninappleton Corporal

Ok. Traffic might be high here in the middle of the day. I'll try all five
much later in the day-- I'll still be up. After that will work on individual logs.

I noticed Hijack This popped up during one of the routines but not the program.

Do you need an HJT log as well?

    Other wise the five are:

    JRT
    RogueKiller
    Malware
    Protection (something)
    HitmanPro.

    cheers

    No, it's included in MGlogs.zip. ;)

Don't need to see a protection log, just the main log from Malware Bytes.
Also need the MGlogs.zip from you running MGTools.exe

    Ok Malwarebytes and MG Tools....

I will try this again later but I've seen problems with these website uploaders before. They might stop at a certain size or something.

Can you use what you have and tell me anything? It looked like JRT got a big chunk of bad stuff.

Another option: allow me to send the needed attachment from my mail. You have my email address as part of setup.

    again at 10:14 pm

I see the error now but don't know the answer. Malwarebytes gives an xml file which is not recognized by the uploader. If there's another one to find point the way because I'll not know how to do it otherwise.

Or can send as mail-- your choice.

It seems I have fallen into another snag. What was all that xml stuff then and why did it look like the right log piece?

    Nevermind.

Will return later when I have the problem disk connected again.

It's incredible that after 18 replies that you have only managed to attach 1 of the 5 required logs, despite our multiple referrals (including quotes) to the R & R ME guide's instructions which are NOT being followed.

*If the next reply does not contain ALL of the remaining logs needed, the thread will be closed and you will be refused further help requests.
