I am still having a problem with internet explorer. When I close it down after browsing the web my computer freezes briefly (about 20 seconds) then everything is fine. I can not open any other programs or files during this time, however, after this brief time period my computer functions normally. I have tried everything and do not know what else to do. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the steps in the spyware forum?

I followed them exactly. I started having this problem after running Spyware blaster last week. I posted about it and followed the steps recommended, however, the problem persists. Below is a link to the problem and what was recommeded to fix it.

I had a quick look through the link.

The problem with adware and spyware is not so much removing them, but dealing with the aftermath.

    Try the simple things first.

In Internet Explorer, click on Tools menu, then internet options.

Click on Delete Cookies, then O.K.

Next click on Delete Files, then check "Delete all offline content" checkbox then O.K.

In the History section, click clear History then click Yes.

Under Temporary Internet Files, click settings, then view objects.

That should open up the Downloaded Program Files Folder.

Delete all the files in there.

Back in Internet Options, go to the Security Tab and select default level for each of the four zones then click apply.

In the Advanced Tab, click restore defaults.

Close any open windows and reboot.

Then click Start, Settings, Control Panel, then click Add/Remove Programs.

Select Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools in the list.

    Click the Add/Remove button.

    Select Repair Internet Explorer.

Click the OK then yes, then yes to restart.

Thanks Insomniac. I followed your instructions, unfortunately, I am still having the same problem.

Unless someone can hopefully come up with something, the only thing I can think of apart from a format and install is to install ME over itself, therefore preserving your programs and settings.

ME is fairly limited compared to XP.

You do have System File Checker, but it's not very intuitive.

The easiest thing I think is to just install ME over itself.

Thats what I was afraid I was going to have to do. I have not done it because I am a second grad student and I am currently writing my thesis. I have so many word and excellfiles currently saved on my comp that I am afraid that I will loose them. I also borrowed excel from a friend and installed it. Will I loose all this info if I reinstall ME? If so I will wait until the end of the semester so I do loose anything critical.

I started having these problems after deleting Wild Tangent after running spyware blaster. I just searched for files named wild tangent and found 13 of them (they look like zip files and on is called WILDLB32.DLL. Can I delete these? Could this be the source of my problem?

You will only lose files if you format and install.

If you just install ME over the current system, you will preserve all your files and programs.

Regardless which way you go, if you value the files, back them up anyway.

    Insomniac,

I don't know what happened but I followed your instructions again, deleted all the wild tangent files I posted below and ran Cleanup (which I downloaded earlier) and now my comp seems to be working fine. Thanks for all your help!
