    Hey ya'll,

    My wife on surfing through the web and bam, she was hit with spyware. It took over my whole computer and is currently kicking my a$$ to get my computer to normal. I have read the "Read Me First" and the "Windows XP Cleaning Procedure" threads. They have helped me very much but seem to still have some spam. The major one I can still see is the "privacy danger" folder that resides in the Windows folder every time I reboot my pc and the system-defender page that pops up. It sucks!! I have attached the files you are needing. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Can someone please help me? Thanks.

    Sorry for the delay ...there are only a few of us that work this forum and it gets busy at times.

    Let's start with this:
    Tell me what this is (If you don't know, delete it):
    C:\ie-spyad_zo

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following:

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    Be sure to tell us how things are running.

    TimW,

    First off, thanks for all the help. Ya'll dudes are awesome and I appreciate the time you take to help all of us out!

    Second, I followed everything you told me step by step. But, I am still seeing the following populate when I have ran HJT after the 1st time:O21 - SSODL: altvxvm - {D10ACF44-B377-4B5F-AEB4-AC2DEE61F3DB} - C:\WINDOWS\altvxvm.dll
    O21 - SSODL: RomSrv - {c73459aa-1a23-48c7-aa2c-06ce1bc87778} - C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{c73459aa-1a23-48c7-aa2c

    I have attached the log files that you also requested. (hijackthis1 is the first log file created the 1st time I ran HJT, let me know if you need the second log.) It's running okay but that does not mean that it's all gone. Thanks again and I really appreciate all your help.

    Thanks,
    Temo

    You didn't tell me what these are:
    C:\bfu
    C:\Documents and Settings\Temo.IBARRA\My Documents\ie-spyad_zo.exe

    Let's try it this way:
    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\scanner.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{c73459aa-1a23-48c7-aa2c-06ce1bc87778}\RomSrv.dll

    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
    "RomSrv"=-
    "altvxvm"=-

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Attach the log when it is done.

    TimW,

    I deleted the following since i did not know what they were:
    C:\bfu
    C:\Documents and Settings\Temo.IBARRA\My Documents\ie-spyad_zo.exe

    I ran the script you recommended and have attached the log it created.

    For now, the computer is running great and everything is looking good. Thanks again for all your help!

    Good to know....If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
    2.
    * Click START then RUN
    * Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
    * Note: The space between the X and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    4. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    5. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    6. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
