    After completing the steps I'm still having problems with McAfee firewall not working along with Windows Updates not working either.

    I have attached the log files though maybe not in the order of the readme.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these 3 detections:

    • [SUSP PATH] HKCU\[...]\Run : DW6 ("C:\Program Files (x86)\The Weather Channel FW\Desktop\DesktopWeather.exe") -> FOUND
      [SUSP PATH] HKCU\[...]\Run : PCShowServer ("C:\Users\Fred\AppData\Local\DIRECTV Player\PCShowServerPMWrapper.exe") -> FOUND
      [SUSP PATH] HKUS\S-1-5-21-1007141986-724779072-1009716690-500[...]\Run : DW6 ("C:\Program Files (x86)\The Weather Channel FW\Desktop\DesktopWeather.exe") -> FOUND
      [SUSP PATH] HKUS\S-1-5-21-1007141986-724779072-1009716690-500[...]\Run : PCShowServer ("C:\Users\Fred\AppData\Local\DIRECTV Player\PCShowServerPMWrapper.exe") -> FOUND
      [HJ] HKLM\[...]\System : ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin (0) -> FOUND
      [HJ] HKLM\[...]\System : EnableLUA (0) -> FOUND

    Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.

    Now click the Files/folders tab and locate these detections:

    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] U : c:\windows\installer\{792f4199-0b73-e2f4-7b46-706eb422a6b8}\U --> FOUND
      [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] L : c:\windows\installer\{792f4199-0b73-e2f4-7b46-706eb422a6b8}\L --> FOUND

    Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Do not reboot your computer yet.

    Rescan with HitmanPro.
    Choose to Delete these files if they are detected:

    • C:\Windows\Installer\{792f4199-0b73-e2f4-7b46-706eb422a6b8}\L\ (ZeroAccess)
      C:\Windows\Installer\{792f4199-0b73-e2f4-7b46-706eb422a6b8}\L\00000004.@ (ZeroAccess)
      C:\Windows\Installer\{792f4199-0b73-e2f4-7b46-706eb422a6b8}\U\ (ZeroAccess)

    Ignore all other detections.
    Afterwards, click the Next button.
    HitmanPro may want to reboot the PC in order for the changes to take affect, please do so.

    Now Extract bfe.reg to your desktop.
    Double-click bfe.reg and allow it to merge into the registry. If you get a "successfully merged into registry" type of message, reboot your PC and see if you can turn on BFE, or if it is already turned on.

    You can run these commands from the command prompt.

    net start bfe
    sc qc bfe

    Now run CCleaner and clean out your temp folders.

    Re-run RogueKiller and attach the new log.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below log:

    C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I'm attaching the RogueKiller log requested... that step and HitmanPro worked but ran into problems with bfe. When I enter "net start bfe" from elevated command prompt the following messages are returned.

    The Base Filtering Engine service is starting.
    The Base Filtering Engine service could not be started.
    A system error has occurred.
    System error 5 has occurred.
    Access is denied.

    I'm stuck at this step.

    Thanks,
    Fred

    Okay, the BFE.REG link didn't work and at first thought it was either gmail or Firefox causing the problem. Finally after seeing that it didn't work under IE9, I tried copying the link then stripped off everything after bfe.reg in the link and it worked.

    Followed all the steps and McAfee firewall is active again! Tried Windows Update and unfortunately that's still not working. The updates fail with code 80246008 "Windows Update encountered an unknown error".

    Great progress!! Thanks!

    The new log files are attached...

    GREAT!! All appears to be working in harmony now! Thank you so much! To think McAfee's only idea was to reformat & start over from scratch!

    Good to know.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
    Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
