still having trouble

i found out that my 3000 song collection is lost after i did a factory restore on my vista driven p.c. but i found my copied song discs i made to recover.. i dubbed them in the data format instead of in the music file format. the discs will play but wont rip nor can i save them in any format in my library. i am crushed. is there a setting i can command to put them in my library or any way to put my music back on my computer? my next step in fixing my problem might be to get my chainsaw or my hammer and give the old p.c. a once over hahaha, just joking, but the thought has crossed my mind...
