    Hello,

I have gone through the removal and scan procedure and my files are attached below...

My father is the type of user who doesn't know the difference between an anti-virus popup and a spam popup and doesn't understand how to uncheck adware during installations. The "just click next" kind of guy.

    Hope you guys can help!

Not too much left to do. Just some minor junkware tweaking that we will get to. The sluggishess may just be due to what is running. I suggest that you get rid of the Norton Checkup stuff I se running and also uninstall all the AVG stuff below. Make sure it all gets removed including their junk toolbar.

    AVG PC TuneUp 2014
    AVG Web TuneUp

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe
    :Files
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\swnadu0x.default\smartbar

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-101812110-1645898070-3990150495-1000\Software\AppDataLow\Software\SmartBar]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-101812110-1645898070-3990150495-1000\Software\Conduit]
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hello,

    Thanks for the prompt response!

I just got home from work and ran everything you asked me too, also ran defrag a few times last night to go from 15% fragmentation to 1%...

I hope these logs help, but something I've also noticed is that the loading mouse icon keeps running, on and off, more constantly than it should. I'll let you know how things are running after this, but here are my logs!

    Thanks,

    Matthew

I wish I could edit my last reply, but I can't seem to remove the web portion of AVG either...

The log is attached if you can help me out with that as well.

    Thanks!

Actually, scratch that... I just tried to upload the .cab log within a .zip and I got an internal service error...

    Code:
    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, root@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
    Apache/2.2.23 (CentOS) Server at forums.majorgeeks.com Port 80
Is there an AVG removal tool that you would like me to run?

    Thanks,

    Matthew

    Also,

Is there anything that could be throttling the bandwidth over wifi on this laptop?

I have a 50 mbit connection that performs above 50 on my PC.

Here's the speedtest over wifi on this laptop...

The only suggestions I can give you are to try seeing if your throughput issues are related to your protection software. So besides getting rid of all AVG, and I Symantec Security scan which was still showing in your last logs, also give a temporary try to uninstalling Kaspersky to see what happens.

You can try the below program to see if it helps with AVG
