I have a very old Dell GX1. I cannot figure out how to remove the case. It doesn't slide off the back or pull up off the top. It won't budge.

    thanks kids.

are you trying to remove the panel on the side? If you are usually they have screws, but dells seem to have some kind of button or latch.

I'm trying to remove the case to get to the hard drive. I don't see any screws or latch (per se), however there is some sort of sliding bit at the bottom on the back that looks like you could slip the hook of a padlock through. Otherwise seems useless.

In all cases but the mini-tower it looks as if there are two securing buttons on the sides towards the rear. Press these in and lift. The case should pivot towards the front. On the mini-tower the release is on the front panel (bottom left) and the side panel lifts out and pivots up

doh! So, it's a combination of the sliding bit at the back and the all important magic button on the front. However, the button is jammed so we ended up taking the face plate off and dittling with a screwdriver. Not to worry, this computer is headed for the grveyard. I just want the hd.

    Thanks, kids!
