STOP System Auto-Reboot

XP Pro
Does anyone know how to stop Auto-Reboot when we select START then SHUT DOWN
No matter what option you choose, it still reboots.
We have to shut down on the tower
Hate to do that

I had that problem before. It is a driver causing problems. In order to see what the problem is. Do this: Right click My Computer - properties - Advanced tab - click Settings in Startup and Recovery - then uncheck automatically restart.

Then you will be able to find out what is causing it to reboot after the crash.

I did take the check out and then shut down, got the text filled blue screen that hung there until I shut down on the case. I checked bios for shut down instructions and it looks like everything is supposed to shut down correctly. What in the (blue screen) text am I supposed to look for?

hey linda i got the solution for you
my comp used to do this because i had ACPI disabled when installed xp.. if your computer is ACPI enabled, go into the bios, and enable it, unfortunatley you must do a repair install afterwards because windows has to use a different HAL (basiclly the core of windows)

btw if you go into device manager and under computer it says normal (or standard lol i dunno) pc that will work.. if it mentions anything about ACPI in that area, i have no clue whats wrong
