    Win10 - maybe v. 1901? - HP laptop (notebook)

had trouble with older Hama optical mouse getting glitschy, tried mouse on different comp (worked), tried flash drive in ports of the laptop (ports worked).

downloaded drivers for Hama mouse, worked briefly but could only move the mouse right, when moving it to the left it was very stuttery

uninstalled drivers under Apps (add/remove program)

I think it was the next bootup when I got the above stopcode: critical process died

tried all options to get computer to boot back up, but couldn't get out of loop offered by Windows repair options exceept Shutdown still worked.

Could still get to UEFI - switched boot sequence for both dvd and for fashdrive versios downloaded from Microsoft downloads - Win10 operating systems as iso files

With both iso files, the computer made it to the HP screen (it had before too), but instead of getting the options I had before for repairs or cmd screen etc, I got the attached screeen with both the flash drive and with the dvd version of win10

I wonder if anyone has seen this screen before?

When I tried to reboot without the win10 dvd or flashdrive, I got back into the endless repair, cmd, reset, etc menu that simply loops around.

The operating system is located now on X:

Here's the screenshot - don't know if that stuff in the middle is HP in pixelated pink and blue

Looks a little like a graphics problem- have you tried restarting in safe mode, as this gives only basic drivers, so the graphics driver could be faulty, but a basic one may work, in safe mode.

    hi baklogik,
I can't get to safe mode. I looked at the image I posted more closely and I don't think the watermark in the middle is HP. I think it is showing a picture of a magnet. I've tried using aWin10 recovery dvd and also as usb. I changed the boot order in the UEFI for each one. I can get to the point where it says hit any key, which I did. In both cases, the computer works with either device (the dvd player is running, the usb device is being used) and then this pixzilated image comes up on the screen with I think a picture of a magnet at the center of the screen. I'm wondering if it could be a sign of malware?

Also, I can get to recovery options, like the command prompt and can read all the directories. I can get to system restore and even begin the process of starting it, selecting a restore point and clicking on next, but then I am told I have to choose the drive. While I can highlight the drive, I can't put a checkmark in the box next to the c drive, so I can't run system restore.

In many of these attempts, like ending up at the pixelated image, I only shut down the computer with the power button - cold.

I checked all the drivers and the changes made to the drivers appear to be from July. The problems I'm having now started about two days ago.

Do you think this thread shoul be moved to malware? Could I even do malware removal without being able to boot up? I tried what I think was a linux-based recovery iso on a usb stick and the computer won't recognize it.

    Thanks for responding.
