These are important windows process why do you think they are viruses.

I have two of each when I execute process control. When I am connected to the internet I keep getting windows error messages saying that these 2 processes are causing an error in Winsock Module. Make sure "csrss.exe" can connect to the internet. Same error for smss.exe. Also, I was getting errors on Norton. I did a full scan and it found nothing. I have since uninstalled it as I thought that may be the proble. I was getting an error when I tried to do a live update.

I also have a program called Secretmaker which is blocking outgoing email because it detect worm like activities.

I did a check on the 2 processes and it turns out that the w32.ladex.a could be the cause. I googled that and Norton says that part of the fix is first the 2 processes must be stopped. Of course< I don't know which is the good file as I have 2 of each. I tried stopping all 4 instances through the Process Patrol and got a blue screen and crash.

I tried running Hijack this, but it won't load. I get a screen that says no viruses found on this computer. I tried to load Microsoft anti spyware, but that won't even install.

    ?????

    Did you try taskmgr?
    Start>run>taskmgr
    or ctr-alt-del
In the process tab, choose the process and end it.

Tried that. I get a message saying :unable to terminate process. This is a critical system process. Task manager cannot end this process". I guess there is also a 3rd process which is services.exe. There are 2 instances running of all three. User name for one is System and for the other is David.

You can try it in safe mode, but you must visit the spyware section before you try anything. And dont try fixes if you are not sure you have a trojan.CRSS.EXE and SMSS.EXE are system processes and are not viruses, there may be viruses that use the same name, but until you are sure nothing should be done.Since your live update is down I think you may be infected,Anyway,

VISIT THE SPYWARE SECTION AND POST A THREAD THERE.

I am getting these same error messages and my internet connection disconnects. I can only stay connected for a couple of minutes at a time. I am running XP also. I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks
