stopping unwanted launching of a program

A program that I have installed in Win7 Ultimate, offers the tickable option to launch with windows; When I leave that unticked, it STILL launches automatically ! There is NO tickable option for it in the StartUp tab of MSConfig. How can I prevent it from launching ?

MSconfig does not offer many options. Try another startup manager such as CCleaner (Tools | Startup).

My vote goes to WinPatrol http://majorgeeks.com/WinPatrol_d3380.html
Not only does it allow you to control currently installed programs but when you install something new, it will alert you to startups and services trying to run and allow you to decide if you want them to run or not.

The Startup Manager in CCleaner is not a recommended option.

I still like Startup Control Panel Standalone Version but don't know if it has been tested with Windows 7.

msconfig works everytime for me. you can also try sysedit
